Experience Comprehensive Intelligence in China’s “Future City”

In the Xiong’an New Area, the urban computing center showcases a vision of intelligent integration. At 8 PM, within the network management center of the Xiong’an Urban Computing Center, data streams flicker across a massive monitoring screen. Cao Ying, the deputy general manager of Xiong’an Cloud Network Technology Co., is intently observing the dynamic numbers displayed on the screen.

This building, resembling an eye and referred to as the “Xiong’an Eye,” serves as the “super brain” of the “Future City.” Just a few years ago, it existed only as a concept in planning documents. Today, it is woven together by over a million sensing terminals, forming an invisible giant network that protects the land of Xiong’an.

Cao and her team are the guardians of the “Xiong’an Eye.”

Real-time monitoring of the operational data for water, gas, heating, and internet services allows for timely alerts in case of anomalies. Data on underground pipelines, traffic flow, and environmental quality is continuously updated, enabling precise and efficient urban management. Cao states that the entire chain, from chips to applications, utilizes domestically produced technology, creating a computing system that integrates cloud computing, edge computing, supercomputing, and intelligent computing. This system has accumulated over 40 billion data points, safeguarding the city’s lifelines while injecting vitality into residents’ lives and business development.

In Xiong’an, AI-driven smart scenarios are deeply embedded in the daily lives of citizens.

At the China Mobile Migu Coffee Shop, the robot “AI Coffee Master” uses its flexible mechanical arms to replicate the precise brewing techniques of coffee experts, ensuring that every cup of coffee has a touch of technological sophistication.

In the smart cafeteria of Wenhua Community, residents can see real-time displays of meal weights and calorie counts when they pick up their food. A health machine can generate personalized health reports and offer dietary suggestions.

The digital roads in the Rongdong area possess “thinking” capabilities, with AI-constructed “intelligent elastic green wave bands” that dynamically adjust traffic light timings based on traffic flow, making travel smoother for citizens. Currently, over 500 kilometers of digital roads have been established in Xiong’an.

In the Xiong’an Library, intelligent bookshelves facilitate integrated borrowing and returning queries, while smart blinds automatically adjust angles to provide comfortable reading light according to sunlight.

The large screen at the Rongdong Urban Operation Management Center clearly displays data on population, traffic flow, and rainfall. Issues like overflowing trash bins are quickly resolved through “cloud dispatching.” The system can also monitor the water and electricity usage of elderly residents living alone, issuing timely alerts in case of abnormalities, thus enhancing community governance.

Robots now have their own “school.” In the future, robots trained at the Digital City Technology Company of China Xiong’an Group will gradually “graduate” and start working throughout Xiong’an.

As a new district with national significance, following in the footsteps of Shenzhen’s economic zone and Shanghai’s Pudong New Area, Xiong’an is developing a high-level digital twin city. It is establishing over a hundred smart scenarios encompassing economic operations, smart communities, and safety production, enhancing the intelligence of city management and operational safety.

Xiong’an is currently focusing on three dimensions: technological innovation, industrial development, and scenario empowerment. It is building an open, full-stack industrial ecosystem for artificial intelligence through platforms such as the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, AI Industrial Park, Zhongguancun Science Park, and pilot bases.

In the Xiong’an New Area AI Industrial Park, Xiong’an Huaqing Zhiyan Technology Co., Ltd. is busy establishing connections with various partners in the industrial park, benefiting from the convenience of being in close proximity to upstream and downstream businesses.

“In just three months, our company completed the signing and settling process,” said Li Qiang, the founder of Huaqing Zhiyan. He noted that this “nanny-style” comprehensive service left a deep impression on him.

What attracts him the most is how the Xiong’an New Area systematically and proactively embeds artificial intelligence into various aspects of urban construction. Li has keenly observed that the AI application scenarios in areas such as environmental protection, transportation, and energy within the Xiong’an New Area are interconnected, providing businesses with opportunities to achieve comprehensive intelligence.

At the end of January, during the 2026 Xiong’an New Area “AI+” Innovation Ecosystem event, a general model focused on processing structured data, named “Extreme Data,” was officially released. This model, co-developed by Tsinghua University and Wenzhun Intelligent (Xiong’an) Technology Co., Ltd., has exhibited excellent performance in several international benchmark tests and aims to support the intelligent transformation of the real economy in industries such as manufacturing, energy, and transportation.

“The Xiong’an New Area not only provides us with funding support but also offers ample computing power, allowing us to focus on research and development,” stated Yu Fei, a representative of Wenzhun Intelligent (Xiong’an) Technology Co., Ltd.

The Xiong’an New Area is comprehensively promoting the development of the artificial intelligence industry and has begun to form an industrial ecological cluster. Ma Yangbiao, deputy director of the Xiong’an Science Park Management Committee and president of the Xiong’an Future Industry Technology Research Institute, mentioned that the area has currently gathered 90 upstream and downstream enterprises covering hardware, software, platforms, and terminals.

High-quality industrial development relies on talent support. The Xiong’an New Area has closely collaborated with Tsinghua University to cultivate leading innovative teams in artificial intelligence and has formed the Xiong’an Artificial Intelligence Research Institute in conjunction with a team of Tsinghua academicians to jointly advance AI technology projects. The relevant officials of the Xiong’an New Area’s Bureau of Industry and Information Technology stated that the area is also working on creating a comprehensive training and service base for artificial intelligence, encompassing embodied intelligence and large model training.

From the precise empowerment of the “Xiong’an Eye” to the proliferation of smart scenarios, from the robust growth of enterprises to the accelerated gathering of talent, the Xiong’an New Area is leveraging artificial intelligence as its driving force, striving to create a model of a smart city and contribute China’s wisdom to global digital city construction.
