Envision’s Chifeng Green Hydrogen Ammonia Project Receives BV Certification, Marking a Key Step in Global Green Hydrogen Ammonia Commercialization
On May 21, at the 2025 World Hydrogen Summit held in Rotterdam, Envision Energy, a leading global green technology company, announced that the first phase of its green hydrogen ammonia project in Chifeng has received renewable ammonia certification from Bureau Veritas (BV), a French organization. This achievement makes Envision’s green hydrogen ammonia the first product of its kind in the world to obtain this certification.
The BV renewable ammonia certification is an internationally recognized standard that evaluates the safety, sustainability, and low carbon emissions of ammonia production. The certification confirms that the ammonia produced at Envision’s zero-carbon hydrogen industrial park in Chifeng is entirely derived from renewable hydrogen, adhering to rigorous standards regarding carbon emissions, safety, and environmental impact.
This milestone illustrates Envision’s ability to ensure the safe and sustainable production of green hydrogen ammonia while meeting international standards, thereby advancing the commercialization of global green hydrogen ammonia significantly.
As a pioneer in the zero-carbon industrial park model and a holder of comprehensive green hydrogen technologies, Envision is developing the largest and most cost-effective green hydrogen ammonia project globally, marking the world’s first commercially operated green hydrogen ammonia facility. The first phase, which includes the production of 300,000 tons of green hydrogen ammonia, successfully commenced operations on March 14, 2024.
Leveraging breakthroughs in new power system technologies, the Chifeng green hydrogen ammonia project dynamically integrates wind, solar, storage, and hydrogen ammonia production, addressing significant challenges in zero-carbon hydrogen development. This project utilizes 100% green electricity to produce liquid ammonia, providing competitive green hydrogen products to both domestic and international markets.
Yufeng, Senior Vice President and President of the Hydrogen Market Product Line at Envision Energy, stated, “This certification is a significant milestone in our green hydrogen ammonia development journey, showcasing our commitment to innovation and sustainable development. By utilizing a hydrogen production system powered entirely by renewable energy, we are redefining the future of green energy. This certification enhances Envision’s credibility in the industry and strengthens our resolve to accelerate the global energy transition.”
Laurence Boisramé, Global Director of Hydrogen at BV, commented, “Envision’s certification achievement is groundbreaking for the hydrogen industry. It demonstrates that large-scale, renewable energy-based hydrogen ammonia production can meet the highest international quality, safety, and sustainability standards. Envision’s project not only enhances industry transparency but also boosts global market trust in green hydrogen projects.”
This certification not only validates the operational safety and sustainability of the Chifeng green hydrogen ammonia project but also significantly enhances its financing prospects and international collaboration potential. It lays a solid foundation for the widespread application of green ammonia as a clean fuel and future energy carrier. Additionally, Envision is advancing the first international sustainable development and carbon certification (ISCC PLUS) and non-biological renewable fuel (RFNBO) certifications for green ammonia in China, continuously promoting transparency and standardization within the green hydrogen ammonia sector and setting new industry benchmarks.
