2024 Confirmed as Hottest Year on Record
Global average temperatures were 1.6°C above pre-industrial levels for the first time in 2024, according to a spokesperson for the World Meteorological Organization. This follows the 2014 Paris Agreement’s commitment to keep temperature increases well below 2°C, ideally limiting them to 1.5°C. Achieving this goal by 2030 requires a 45% reduction in fossil fuel emissions by that year.
