New Media Platform of Dazhong – Dazhong News has highlighted various new career roles such as Industrial Internet Operations Technicians and Energy Storage Station Operations Administrators. These new professions are driving fresh momentum in the industry. On May 13, Dazhong News launched a series titled “Dazhong Observation: Focus on New Professions”, which aims to showcase how these emerging roles are creating new employment opportunities, invigorating industries, and stimulating market consumption.
With the advancement of new technologies, industries, and business models, many new professions have emerged in recent years, including Industrial Internet Operations Technicians, Energy Storage Station Operations Administrators, and Biological Engineering Technicians. These roles are oriented towards innovation, digitization, and sustainability, continuously expanding employment avenues and injecting new energy into the development of industries.
Industrial Internet Operations Technicians empower businesses with data. The rapid development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and the Internet of Things has made digital transformation essential for the survival and growth of enterprises. On April 21, Shandong Yaxin Plastic Packaging Co., Ltd. convened a meeting to discuss how to expedite order deliveries. The analysis by Industrial Internet Operations Technician Sun Qicai revealed that significant improvements could be made in the order flow time based on data from the order management system.
Sun noted, “Our work involves building the digital infrastructure that supports a company’s digital transformation, connecting data chains across production, management, and operations. We collect data from devices and systems in real time, clean, label, and analyze it to extract valuable information, which we then present in reports or dashboards to aid decision-making.” He added, “By utilizing real-time, accurate data, we can help businesses identify potential issues in management, operations, and manufacturing, thereby enhancing efficiency and reducing costs.”
Energy Storage Station Operations Administrators are making strides towards a greener future. With the economic transition and the demand for low-carbon developments, “green” has become a defining characteristic of many new professions. On April 21, Fan Bo, a newly minted operations administrator at the Qingyun Energy Storage Station of the Three Gorges New Energy Group, was seen performing routine inspections, donning safety gear reminiscent of seasoned electricians. “Every day I monitor the energy storage cabinets, checking data and recording conditions,” he said.
Born in 1996 and graduated from Qingdao University of Technology in 2021, Fan has spent five years in this role. He shared, “As a new profession, there were no prior experiences to draw from. It has been a mix of challenges and rewards; sometimes I stay on-site for months without returning home, but successfully completing charging and discharging tasks brings a great sense of accomplishment.” The Qingyun Energy Storage Station is the first demonstration project in Shandong Province and has become the largest grid-side shared energy storage station in the country.
An Guoxing, head of the energy storage station, explained that energy storage is closely linked to renewable energy sources like wind and solar, often located in remote areas with optimal conditions for harnessing these resources. Currently, the station employs ten people, with eight being from the post-90s and post-95 generations, all holding degrees in power-related fields and relevant qualifications. “The influx of skilled young professionals is accelerating the energy revolution,” An noted.
Biological Engineering Technicians are also playing a crucial role. On April 22, Zhang Maoying, head of the basic reagent production department at Shandong Weizhen Biotechnology Co., Ltd., was busy preparing for the purification of viral vectors, a key aspect of their operations. “We work with self-inactivating viruses that carry target genes with high infection efficiency,” Zhang explained. “This product has been instrumental in various scientific breakthroughs. For instance, a recent cardiovascular study by a team from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University utilized our adenoviral vector tool to explore treatments for atherosclerosis.”
The biopharmaceutical industry is a key emerging sector in the country and one of Shandong’s “ten strong industries.” Zhang has witnessed the challenges of the industry over 14 years, noting, “The biotechnological sector requires significant R&D investment and has long cycles and high risks.” However, in recent years, the company has established numerous technology repositories, facilitating quicker market adaptation. “We have seen steady growth of 20%-30% annually,” Zhang said. The formal recognition of the Biological Engineering Technician role as a new profession has provided clearer industry prospects. “With more gene and cell therapy technologies moving into clinical phases, we feel a vibrant momentum in the industry,” Zhang added, highlighting the increasing influx of young talent with relevant qualifications.
