Electric Vehicle Sales Surge by 273%! The new energy vehicle market is witnessing an impressive growth trajectory, as indicated by the latest data.

On May 6, 2025, new energy vehicle sales reached a remarkable 273% increase compared to the previous year. This growth reflects a significant shift in consumer preferences toward electric vehicles.

As of April 5, 2025, several major manufacturers, including Longan Motors, BYD, and South Motor Group, have reported substantial sales figures, totaling approximately 38,000 units for the month alone. Year-to-date, the total sales have already reached 138,000 units, marking a substantial increase of nearly 47% compared to the same period last year.

In the category of electric vehicles, there were approximately 136,000 units sold, indicating a robust demand. Specifically, sales in April 2025 showed that Longan Motors had a market share of about 16.4 million units, including around 2.11 million units for the “Smart Family” model, which has gained significant traction.

The overall electric vehicle market for April 2025 saw a total of 7.9 million units sold, a staggering increase of over 90% compared to 4.1 million units in April 2024. The total battery capacity for electric vehicles delivered in April reached 26.478 GWh, with an estimated cumulative capacity of 79.031 GWh by the end of 2025.

This trend of increasing sales in new energy vehicles is expected to continue, as manufacturers ramp up their production capabilities. For example, in April 2025, the total new energy vehicle sales were approximately 37.65 million units, a 4.59% increase from the previous month.

From January to April 2025, a total of 132,000 units were sold, showing a year-on-year growth of 10.7%. Within this figure, new energy vehicles accounted for more than 40,000 units, which is an increase of around 41% compared to last year.
