The “Vehicle-to-Grid” (V2G) concept is gaining traction in the new energy sector. On April 24, 2025, it was reported that V2G technology is being increasingly integrated into electric vehicle charging stations across China. This movement comes in response to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions and the need for efficient energy management.

Recently, a V2G station was launched in the mountainous region of Jiangxi Province, which has been equipped with 64 charging spots for electric vehicles. This station has also implemented a unique vehicle-to-grid integration feature that allows electric vehicles to discharge power back into the grid, enhancing energy efficiency.

In Jiangxi Province, the newly established electric vehicle charging station has shown significant progress. The integration of electric vehicles with the grid is expected to facilitate the return of electricity during peak demand periods, thus improving overall energy management.

On April 24, 2025, the National Development and Reform Commission, along with several governmental departments, announced a pilot scheme for vehicle-to-grid integration. This initiative involves testing in nine cities and thirty specific projects aimed at establishing a more dynamic and responsive electric vehicle network.

Vehicle-to-grid integration is a groundbreaking approach that allows electric vehicles to not only draw power from the grid but also send power back. This capability can lead to reduced operational costs for electric cars while contributing to grid stability.

According to the latest statistics, by the end of 2025, China is expected to have over 31.4 million electric vehicles and a total of 1.2818 billion charging points. The electric vehicle sector is rapidly expanding, with over 1 million electric vehicles already participating in the grid operations.

With the V2G system, electric vehicles can help balance the energy load on the grid, providing power back during peak hours and reducing costs for users. For instance, electric vehicle owners can earn credits for the power they feed back into the grid, enhancing the economic viability of electric vehicles.

The pilot projects across various cities are designed to refine V2G technology and establish a robust framework for integrating electric vehicles with the energy grid. This initiative aims to facilitate a seamless transition towards a more sustainable energy ecosystem.

Experts believe that despite the challenges ahead, the successful implementation of V2G technology could significantly advance the electric vehicle industry in China. By encouraging electric vehicle owners to engage more actively with the grid, this model aims to create a more resilient and efficient energy landscape.

As the pilot programs unfold, the future of vehicle-to-grid integration looks promising, paving the way for a more interconnected energy framework that benefits both consumers and the environment.
