Electric Vehicle Charging Guide for the May Day Holiday: Tips for Highway Travel

Electric

The “May Day” holiday is upon us, and the Ministry of Transport’s Road Network Center has released a charging guide for electric vehicles on highways during this period. According to predictions, many drivers plan to set off on their journeys on April 30 and May 1. As a result, a peak in charging demand is expected to begin at 10 AM on April 30 and continue until midnight. On May 1, most drivers are anticipated to depart in the morning, with charging peaks starting at 7 AM and lasting until 7 PM. Additionally, May 4 is expected to see a surge in charging needs as travelers return home, with peak demand from 10 AM to midnight.

To ensure that electric vehicle owners have sufficient charging options, local transportation and electric power departments are collaborating on various measures. At the Wangdu Service Area on the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway, the electric power department has added 8 new charging stations, increasing charging capacity by approximately 50% to alleviate pressure during peak times.

At the Dongfu Service Area on the Shenhai Expressway, local power authorities have deployed mobile charging robots that offer flexible and convenient charging solutions. Drivers can simply scan a QR code in the service area, and a mobile charging vehicle will come to provide charging services.

In Nanjing’s Jiangbei New District, transportation and power departments have collaborated to develop a comprehensive monitoring system for charging facilities, integrating IoT monitoring, big data analysis, and AI diagnostics. This system operates 24/7 to monitor the status of charging stations throughout the city, ensuring a smooth travel experience for electric vehicle owners.

Based on predictions, the following highway service areas are expected to be particularly busy with charging demand during the “May Day” holiday: the Nancheng Service Area on the Jiguang Expressway in Jiangxi; the Changle and Fu’an Service Areas on the Shenhai Expressway in Fujian; the Maoshan Service Area on the Huwu Expressway in Jiangsu; the Meicun Service Area on the Huyong Expressway in Jiangsu; the Yuxi Service Area in Hubei; the South Shore Service Area on the Shenhai Expressway in Zhejiang and the Dahai Service Area in Guangdong; and the Fengjing Service Area on the Hukun Expressway in Shanghai.
