EESA Releases 2024 Global Energy Storage Industry Data and Ranking of Chinese Storage Companies

On March 28, the Energy Storage Leaders Alliance hosted the seventh Energy Storage Carnival and released the ranking of global shipments of Chinese energy storage companies for 2024 in Wuhan. The theme of this year’s event was “Discussing ‘Chu’ Energy Development and Composing a New Chapter in Energy Storage.” Nearly a hundred leaders from relevant government departments, national energy storage industry leaders, technological pioneers, and upstream and downstream enterprises gathered to deeply discuss key topics such as technological innovation, market trends, and industry chain collaboration, injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of the energy storage industry.

During the event, the Energy Storage Leaders Alliance officially released the “2024 Global Energy Storage Industry Data” and the “2024 Ranking of Chinese Energy Storage Companies.”

1. 2024 Global Energy Storage Industry Data

According to EESA, the following data was reported:

1. Global and Domestic Energy Storage Market: The global new energy storage installed capacity in 2024 reached 79.2 GW / 188.5 GWh, representing a year-on-year growth of 82.1%. In China, the new energy storage installed capacity was 41.54 GW / 107.13 GWh, growing by 110% year-on-year and accounting for 56.83% of the global share, making China a leader in the global energy storage industry.
2. Commercial and Industrial Storage: Approximately 12.749 GWh of new commercial and industrial storage was installed globally in 2024, a 52.7% increase year-on-year. China continued to be the main market for commercial and industrial storage installations, contributing around 8.2 GWh of new capacity, a 72% increase year-on-year, with a global share of 64.32%.
3. Residential Storage: Global residential storage installations reached 18.6 GWh, marking a 5.68% increase year-on-year. Europe remained the largest residential storage market, with approximately 12.3 GWh of new installations, accounting for 66% of the global market, which is a slight decrease from the previous year.

2. Global and Domestic Energy Storage Products

In 2024, the global shipment volumes were:

• Energy Storage Systems: 263.7 GWh
• Energy Storage Batteries: 314.8 GWh
• Energy Storage PCS: 126.93 GW

3. Contributions of Chinese Companies to the Global Energy Storage Industry

Chinese companies made significant contributions, with global energy storage system shipments reaching 198.3 GWh, a 131% growth year-on-year, accounting for 75.2% of the global total. Chinese companies also shipped 302.1 GWh of energy storage batteries, representing 96% of global shipments, and 88.53 GW of PCS, which is 70% of the total.
