Bar Harbor, Maine (June 17, 2025) – EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA), a prominent renewable energy developer and operator in the United States, has announced that its subsidiary, EDP Renewables North America Distributed Generation LLC (EDPR NA DG), has commenced commercial operations at the Bar Harbor Solar project. This 999 kWac distributed generation facility, located in Hancock County, marks EDPR NA’s second operational solar project in Maine.
Bar Harbor Solar is set to deliver affordable, clean, and reliable energy to the Bangor School District, Epstein Properties, and various local businesses and institutions, enhancing the state’s energy resilience and independence. Annually, the solar facility is projected to prevent over 1,480 pounds of carbon emissions and generate approximately $88,000 in energy savings during its first year of operation. Throughout its development and construction, Bar Harbor Solar has supported around 50 local jobs.
“Maine requires dependable energy to support its communities and economy, and we are proud to fulfill this demand with innovative and affordable energy solutions that promote job creation, investment, and sustained growth,” said David Kane, Director of Development at EDPR NA Distributed Generation. “Bar Harbor Solar exemplifies our commitment to Maine’s energy future, and we anticipate delivering more cost-effective, tax-generating power infrastructure that benefits the state’s residents, communities, and businesses.”
EDPR NA and EDPR NA DG are reliable partners in advancing Maine’s energy and economic development goals, collectively managing a clean energy portfolio exceeding 400 MW, which will power approximately 186,000 homes and create hundreds of jobs during construction and operations. Once fully operational, the projects developed by EDPR NA and EDPR NA DG in Maine are expected to contribute more than $228 million in revenue to local governments, along with an additional $1 million directly paid to landowners.
In February 2025, EDPR NA DG announced the successful completion and energization of the Bristol I community solar project in Bristol, Maine. This 3.4 MW facility provides power to over 400 homes and businesses in the Midcoast region, delivering ongoing economic and tax benefits to the local community. EDPR NA DG is a recognized leader in the community solar sector, operating more than 83 MWac across 29 projects in six states, with an additional 38 MWac of community solar projects currently under construction.
