On May 15, 2025, WPG Holdings, a leading semiconductor component distributor in the Asia-Pacific region, announced the launch of a portable energy storage Battery Management System (BMS) application solution, primarily featuring products from Jingfeng Mingyuan (BPS) and JouWatt. This solution includes the LKS32MC453 MCU from Jingfeng Mingyuan and the JW3376 AFE chip, alongside the JW3330 high-side driver, JWH5140F buck switching regulator, and JW7806 LDO regulator. Additionally, it incorporates Silicon Magic‘s SDN10N3P5B-AA and SDN10K018S2C N-MOSFETs, as well as NOVOSENSE‘s NSPGS2 pressure sensor as peripheral components.
In recent years, the rise of outdoor lifestyles and the increasing demand for emergency power have made portable energy storage products essential for outdoor activities, emergency preparedness, and home electricity needs. Within this sector, the BMS is a critical component that ensures the safe operation of batteries and optimizes energy utilization. The performance of the BMS directly influences the safety and efficiency of the devices.
The portable energy storage BMS application solution from WPG integrates the LKS32MC453 MCU and the JW3376 AFE chip, along with other components to provide a range of protective functions, enabling real-time monitoring and precise management of battery status.
The main control unit features the high-performance, low-power LKS32MC453 MCU based on a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M4F core, which includes a rich set of DSP instructions and a hardware floating-point unit. This MCU has 256KB of built-in Flash memory, supports encryption protection, and is equipped with up to 40KB of SRAM. It also integrates high-performance analog devices, multiple I/O ports, and various peripherals. For clock management, the LKS32MC453 features a 12MHz high-precision RC clock and a 32kHz low-speed clock, with support for external oscillators ranging from 12MHz to 24MHz. Its internal PLL can provide a maximum main frequency of 192MHz.
The design of the power analog front end utilizes the JW3376 AFE device, suitable for 11 to 16 series lithium-ion, lithium polymer, and lithium iron phosphate battery packs. Through SPI communication, the host controller can execute various battery management functions. The chip contains a 14-bit ADC for sampling battery voltage and temperature, and a 16-bit ADC for charging/discharging current sampling, enabling precise battery status detection.
The JW3330 is employed as the driver component, a low-power, 100V high-side N-channel MOSFET driver control IC. It disconnects the power supply by turning off the high-side switch, effectively preventing issues that may arise from breaking the system ground line during low-side protection, thereby enhancing the stability and reliability of the BMS. Furthermore, the JW3330 can work in conjunction with the analog front-end chip for independent control of charging and discharging FETs.
For the control of charging and discharging switches, the solution uses the SDN10K018S2C N-MOSFET for pre-charging and pre-discharging, while the SDN10N3P5B-AA N-MOSFET is utilized for charging and discharging control, effectively enhancing the safety of the solution. The DC-DC part employs the JWH5140F from JouWatt to step down the voltage at BAT+ to 5V, while the LDO section utilizes the JW7806 to further reduce the DC-DC output voltage to 3.3V.
Moreover, for pressure detection, the NSPGS2 pressure sensor from NOVOSENSE is selected. This sensor converts pressure signals ranging from -100kPa to 350kPa into customizable analog/digital output signals, aiding the BMS in precise pressure status monitoring and real-time fault alerts.
In addition, the solution also incorporates resistors from Vishay and connectors from Molex. With these high-performance products, the solution achieves passive balancing, charge/discharge control, temperature collection, high-side protection, and supports over-voltage/under-voltage protection, high/low-temperature protection, short-circuit protection, and over-current protection mechanisms, ensuring comprehensive protection for portable energy storage devices and ensuring their safe and stable operation.
