CLOU Aqua C2.5 Sets New Safety Standard with 59-Hour Large-Scale Fire Test
SHENZHEN, China, June 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The CLOU Aqua C2.5, a 5MWh liquid-cooled energy storage system, has successfully undergone an impressive 59-hour and 10-minute Large-Scale Fire Test, establishing a new benchmark for safety evaluation in energy storage systems. This test was meticulously observed and documented by personnel from CSA Group throughout the entire process.
The system demonstrated remarkable resilience by maintaining its structural integrity under temperatures exceeding 1,300°C, without any thermal runaway propagation occurring between the initiating Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and adjacent systems. The test aimed to assess the potential for fire to spread from one system enclosure to those nearby in centralized energy storage installations. During the testing, even with one system fully engulfed in flames, there were no signs of valve openings or thermal runaway in adjacent systems. This outcome showcases the product’s exceptional flame-retardant and thermal insulation capabilities, meeting specially designed testing requirements set by the client.
This significant testing achievement reflects CLOU’s strong commitment to prioritizing client safety. The ignition of Container A resulted in sustained combustion lasting 59 hours and 10 minutes, concluding successfully without reignition. The testing methodology effectively simulated extreme fire scenarios, from ignition and escalation to natural attenuation, providing critical data that will inform the optimization of fire protection system designs for energy storage facilities.
Eric Wang, System Director of CLOU’s Energy Storage Division, stated, “The test results have far exceeded our most stringent safety benchmarks. CLOU’s integrated approach, which combines superior flame retardancy, advanced thermal management, and inherent system protection, represents a significant advancement in energy storage safety engineering.” He emphasized that the solution is designed to tackle the emerging challenges associated with high-energy-density battery technologies.
The successful results of this test confirm the Aqua C2.5’s readiness for GW-scale deployment, offering unparalleled protection against prolonged thermal runaway events and establishing new certification benchmarks for the global energy storage industry. This milestone underscores CLOU’s leadership in next-generation energy storage safety technologies, with far-reaching implications for utility-scale, commercial, and industrial applications around the world. The performance of the system sets a new safety standard for the sector, illustrating that rigorous safety protocols and high operational efficiency can coexist in modern energy storage solutions.
