CIBF2025 Grand Opening in Shenzhen: Building a New Zero-Carbon Ecosystem

On May 15, 2025, the 17th Shenzhen International Battery Technology Exchange Conference/Exhibition (CIBF2025) officially kicked off at the Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center. As a significant indicator for the global battery industry, this exhibition is organized by the China Chemical and Physical Power Industry Association under the theme “Global Chain, Empowering Green, Driving the Future.” It focuses on the revolutionary advancements in battery technology and the collaborative innovation across the entire industry chain, bringing together leading global enterprises, research institutions, and industry leaders to energize the global energy transition.

Amid the rapid transition of the global energy structure towards a green and low-carbon economy, the new energy sector is reshaping the world economic landscape through disruptive technologies. The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that global battery demand will surge to 3,500 GWh by 2030. With its comprehensive industry chain advantages, China is leading the global technology iteration and standardization. CIBF2025 seizes this historic opportunity by upgrading to a super platform covering the entire industry chain from materials, battery cells, equipment, recycling, to applications. The exhibition area exceeds 300,000 square meters, attracting over 3,200 top exhibitors and more than 400,000 professional visitors, significantly enhancing its international presence.

During the event, four high-level summits and over 200 academic reports will be held, delving into industry trends. These include the CIBF2025 Advanced Battery Technology Seminar, discussions on electric aviation and next-generation battery technology, the CIBICS Battery Industry Cooperation Forum, and a seminar on isotope nuclear batteries.

At the opening ceremony, Zheng Hongyu, the Chairperson of the CIBF2025 Organizing Committee and President of the China Chemical and Physical Power Industry Association, delivered a significant speech. She highlighted that in the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan and during a crucial period of transition to high-quality economic development, the new energy sector is entering a critical phase of comprehensive deepening reform. She noted that 2025 marks a pivotal turning point for China’s new energy industry, shifting from “scale expansion” to “quality enhancement,” showcasing robust developmental momentum. The production of the “new three” items—new energy vehicles, lithium-ion power batteries, and solar cells—has increased by 45.4%, 39.2%, and 18.5% year-on-year, respectively, becoming a vital support for steady growth. In the first quarter of 2025, the country’s newly installed renewable energy capacity reached 76.75 million kilowatts, a 21% increase year-on-year, accounting for approximately 90% of new installations, marking a new stage in the adjustment of China’s energy structure.

Zheng also pointed out that the “uncertainties brought about by rapid changes in the external environment” are widely anticipated in this year’s macroeconomic outlook. However, the inherent resilience of the Chinese economy often exceeds expectations. In the first quarter, the growth rate of 5.4% outpaced major economies, particularly highlighted by the new energy sector, where exports of new energy vehicles reached 441,000 units, a staggering increase of 439%; power battery exports totaled 37.8 GWh, up 21.5% year-on-year. These figures vividly illustrate the profound shift from “Made in China” to “Created in China.”

Zheng emphasized that the 17th Shenzhen International Battery Technology Exchange Conference/Exhibition is here to meet everyone under the theme “Global Chain, Empowering Green, Driving the Future.” The exhibition spans 15 halls and covers nearly 300,000 square meters, gathering over 3,200 exhibitors and expecting to attract more than 400,000 visitors, encompassing the entire industry chain, including battery materials, manufacturing, packaging technology, and recycling.

CIBF serves as a premier platform for global battery technology launches, an ecological aggregation platform for the entire chain, a hub for cross-domain innovation coordination, and a center for intelligent empowerment experiences. It continues to lead industry development, driving technological transformation and industrial upgrades. Leveraging its scale advantage, comprehensive chain integration capability, and deep market empowerment, CIBF has become the “barometer” and “accelerator” of China’s energy sector.

In terms of technology showcases, the next-generation battery technology cluster is on the verge of mass production, featuring disruptive technologies such as solid-state batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and lithium-metal batteries. CATL is set to unveil a third-generation condensed battery with energy density exceeding 500 Wh/kg, while BYD’s all-solid-state battery production line will make its worldwide debut. A special “Disruptive Technology Experience Zone” is created to serve as a window for technology transformation from laboratory to industrialization.

Driving dual wheels of digital intelligence and green closed-loop systems, AI-powered battery management systems (BMS), dynamic battery “identity authentication” traceability platforms, and automated disassembly and secondary utilization technologies showcase China’s leading position in the full lifecycle management of batteries. The event will also prominently release the “2024 Lithium-Ion Battery Industry Blue Book” and the “Standardization White Paper for Low-Flying Vehicle Batteries,” and sign multiple strategic cooperation memorandums to promote sustainable industry standardization and development.

In response to local policies and technological barriers in Europe and the United States, Chinese battery enterprises are breaking through with a combination of “technology + standards + ecology.” A special “International Pavilion” is set up to facilitate competitive cooperation between Chinese and foreign companies in resource recycling and recovery technology, promoting China’s transition from a “manufacturing giant” to a “rule-maker.”

The successful hosting of CIBF2025 not only provides a platform for the global battery industry to showcase and exchange ideas but also further promotes the development of the global new energy sector, aiding the recovery and growth of the world economy.
