Chinese Solar Technology Companies See Huge Market Opportunities in Indonesia – The 2025 Solartech Indonesia exhibition, a major trade event for the solar and photovoltaic technology industry in the ASEAN region, concluded on April 25 at the Jakarta International Conference Center.
At the event, Chinese exhibitors showcased cutting-edge technology and expressed optimism about expanding their presence in the region and establishing green partnerships. Allen Futoul, the sales manager for JinkoSolar, one of the world’s largest solar panel manufacturers, stated, “As Southeast Asia’s largest economy, Indonesia’s energy transition presents tremendous market opportunities, particularly in the rooftop solar PV systems and energy storage sectors, which show significant growth potential.”
Indonesia is considered an ideal country for solar energy development due to its equatorial location, allowing for nearly year-round sunlight. The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has issued permits to PT PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara) for the construction of rooftop solar power plants (PLTS), with a project quota of up to 5,746 megawatts (MW) from 2024 to 2028.
According to the new national general plan, Indonesia also aims to increase solar power generation capacity by 4.68 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, striving for 51.6% of the newly added power capacity to come from renewable sources. Meanwhile, Allen highlighted that Chinese photovoltaic companies have advantages in technology and manufacturing, with JinkoSolar having production bases in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, contributing 70% to its overseas revenue.
Dyness Digital Energy Technology displayed residential energy storage solutions, particularly suitable for remote areas and islands, especially in eastern Indonesia, where significant power networks are still lacking. Viki Yang, the general manager for Dyness in the Asia-Pacific region, remarked, “With over 17,000 islands, Indonesia faces challenges in providing stable power supply, making photovoltaic solar a promising renewable energy solution with enormous market potential, supported by the government’s 2060 ‘net zero emissions’ target.”
Additionally, Jolywood Sunwatt also views Indonesia as a strategic location for potential markets and production bases. The company presented backsheets and photovoltaic films (used as protective layers for solar panels) at the exhibition and revealed plans to establish a factory in Indonesia.
