In April 2025, China’s auto sales reached 34.7 million units, marking a significant milestone in the automotive industry. As of May 17, 2025, the total sales figure highlighted the growing strength of the market.
Recently, reports indicated a surge in new energy vehicle (NEV) adoption in China. This growth has positioned the automotive market as a key player in the global shift towards sustainable energy sources. The data further revealed that NEVs represented a considerable portion of these sales figures, reflecting consumer preferences for environmentally friendly vehicles.
In April, the sales figures showed that NEVs accounted for 34.7 million units, making them the leading category in China’s automotive market. In comparison, traditional fuel vehicles saw a decline in sales. For instance, large gasoline vehicles recorded a sales figure of 13.6 million units, while hybrid vehicles followed closely with 11.4 million units.
Additionally, the overall sales performance from January to April showed that NEVs cumulatively reached 128 million units, surpassing the figures reported by major manufacturers such as BYD, GAC, and Tesla.
The data also indicated that the export volume of NEVs was impressive, with 79,086 units exported in April alone, reflecting a growth rate of 90.8% compared to previous months. Furthermore, the total export figure from January to April reached 29.3 million units, marking a significant increase of 110% year-on-year.
In the European market, NEVs are rapidly gaining traction, with significant sales recorded across countries like Germany, France, and the UK. In April, the sales volume for NEVs in these markets combined reached 11,123 units, compared to 6,253 units for traditional gasoline vehicles.
As of May 2025, China’s NEVs have been successfully introduced in 20 European countries, enhancing their competitiveness in terms of pricing and technology, which is making a considerable impact in the European market.
The current trends indicate that NEVs are not only dominating the domestic market but are also establishing a strong presence internationally, particularly in Europe, where they are seen as a viable alternative to traditional vehicles.
