The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) reported that in April 2025, the country’s automobile exports are projected to reach 42.4 million units, reflecting an increase of 1.4% compared to the previous month. This data was released on May 17, 2025, at 11:54 AM by 199IT through the New Energy Finance APP.
In detail, the total number of new energy vehicle exports is expected to hit 18.6 million units, marking a significant increase of 32.6% year-on-year and 64.5% compared to the previous month. Pure electric vehicle exports are anticipated to reach 12 million units, with a year-on-year growth of 39.3% and a month-on-month increase of 35.3%. Additionally, the exports of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are projected at 6.2 million units, representing a year-on-year rise of 19.9% and a month-on-month surge of 153.9%.
A closer look at specific models reveals that the Tesla Model 3 experienced a substantial increase in exports, with April figures reaching 21,751 units, a staggering increase of 280.9% from the previous month, marking it as the top-selling model. Furthermore, the Model Y showed stable performance with 16,227 units exported, an increase of 64.7% year-on-year.
Despite challenges in the European market, which has seen fluctuating demand, the overall export figures remain robust. The Model 3 saw exports drop by 37.3% compared to the previous month, while the Model Y’s exports surged by 149.3% year-on-year.
While domestic demand for electric vehicles remains strong, the competition in international markets continues to grow. Analysts speculate that despite facing pressure, the demand for electric vehicles will sustain, supporting continued export growth in the upcoming months.
