On May 9, the 2025 European International Solar Exhibition concluded in Munich, Germany, after three days. This significant event in the global photovoltaic industry showcased the strong advantages of Chinese companies in innovative products and system integration.

The exhibition attracted over 2,700 companies from more than 50 countries and regions, with approximately 850 of these companies hailing from China. Many of these Chinese exhibitors occupied prime locations within the main exhibition area, making them a focal point of the event. During visits to various large booths, it was noted that the exhibits from China included high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, energy storage devices, charging infrastructure, and comprehensive energy solutions, showcasing the comprehensive strength of China’s new energy industry chain. Some international exhibitors proactively displayed collaboration signs with Chinese companies, highlighting the deep cooperation in technology research and development as well as supply chains.

Christoph Lich, a senior market analyst at the European Solar Industry Association, stated in an interview that “China’s investment and contribution to the European photovoltaic market are particularly notable.” He emphasized that China is not only the largest photovoltaic application market globally but also aids market growth by providing numerous high-quality products, establishing local production lines, and participating in technological cooperation, thus promoting deep integration between Chinese and European industries for mutual benefit.

The European Solar Industry Association released a report titled Global Solar Market Outlook 2025-2029 during the exhibition, which pointed out that from a global decarbonization perspective, China’s growth in the solar industry is a significant achievement that strongly propels the rapid development of relevant technologies worldwide.

In terms of module manufacturing, Chinese companies continue to introduce innovative achievements. During the exhibition, Longi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. showcased a new type of solar panel that received the annual photovoltaic technology award from the organizers. This product, through structural innovation, maintains a high photovoltaic conversion efficiency even under low light conditions, such as on cloudy days, while also enhancing fire-resistant properties for improved safety.

According to Liu Yuxi, president of Longi Green Energy’s Global Marketing Center, “The European market has a high acceptance of new photovoltaic technologies, which also drives us to increase our R&D investment.” He noted that as the share of new energy in Europe’s energy structure continues to rise, the space for Sino-European cooperation will keep expanding.

Amid high energy prices in Europe, some Chinese companies are actively exploring the domestic appliance application of photovoltaic technology to better meet consumers’ demand for green living. TCL showcased a model residential system equipped with a comprehensive green energy setup, attracting many viewers. This system uses solar panels installed on rooftops and balconies to provide electricity, combined with indoor inverters and storage devices to intelligently distribute power among terminals such as heat pumps and electric vehicle charging stations.

Zhang Shengyang, general manager of TCL’s photovoltaic technology overseas business, mentioned that this system has been implemented in residential projects across several European countries, gaining popularity among families with its green living concept. He expressed optimism that household energy solutions could become a significant growth point in the European market.

The energy storage sector also emerged as a highlight of the exhibition. Several Chinese companies, including CATL, Huawei, and Trina Solar, showcased their latest energy storage technologies and solutions.

CATL unveiled a storage device during the exhibition that stands about two people tall and resembles a shipping container, supporting modular disassembly and stacking. This device’s single unit capacity can charge approximately 150 electric vehicles or meet the electricity needs of a typical German household for about six years.

Ji Yu, senior director of overseas energy storage product line project management at CATL, stated, “As the share of renewable energy, which is heavily influenced by weather, continues to rise, the demand for electricity supply and demand adjustment is significantly increasing, leading to a warming energy storage market in Europe.” He noted that Chinese energy storage companies are accelerating their integration into local markets and are actively seeking diverse collaborations.

Marcus Elsässer, founder and CEO of the German Solar Promotion Company, mentioned in an interview that “From photovoltaic modules to energy storage products, Chinese companies play an irreplaceable role in promoting the energy transition in Europe, not only providing cost-effective solutions but also continuously advancing sustainable technology evolution, making positive contributions to the development of clean energy in Europe.”
