According to recent data, in the first four months of 2025, China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) sales accounted for 68% of total vehicle sales, with 12% coming from self-owned foreign brands. As of May 29, 2025, a report indicated that during the first four months, the sales volume of global vehicles reached 3.026 million units, while new energy vehicles alone totaled 618,000 units. This represents a global market share for new energy vehicles of 27.6%, an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024. The domestic market saw a significant rise, achieving a market share of 20.4% for new energy vehicles, which is relatively strong performance.

By 2025, it is expected that China’s NEV market share will rise to 67.7%. In April 2025, China’s NEV market share maintained a high rate of 70.2%, marking a 3 percentage point increase compared to the same period last year. In the first four months of 2025, the NEV sales volume reached 597,000 units, representing a 34% increase year-on-year. In April 2025, the sales volume of NEVs reached 163,000 units, also reflecting a 34% increase, with a slight decrease of 7% in the share of traditional vehicles.

In the first four months of 2025, NEV sales in the United States rose by 52,000 units, an increase of 7% compared to the previous year, and the slowest growth rate recorded in recent years. In April, the NEV sales volume in the United States dropped slightly by 1%, with a substantial decrease of 17% in the market share year-on-year.

In Europe, NEV sales during the first four months of 2025 reached 112,000 units, marking a year-on-year increase of 22,000 units, or 25%. The initial projections for April in Europe suggest a sales volume of 28,000 units, indicating a growth rate of over 30%.

Starting from April 1, 2025, the market for electric vehicles in the United States is expected to face challenges due to economic pressures. Analysts predict a significant rise in NEV sales, with a goal set at 2,000 units by the end of the year.

In summary, NEVs are showing a strong growth trajectory globally, particularly in China, where they are expected to dominate the market. Recent market dynamics indicate a robust performance in both the domestic and international arenas, with projections suggesting significant increases in NEV adoption rates through 2025.
