China’s New Energy Vehicle Sales Continue to Rise

As of March 2025, the sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in China have surged, with a reported increase of over 160,000 units compared to the previous year, marking a growth rate of 25%. Within this total, pure electric vehicle sales have increased by 32%, reaching 1.1 million units. The growth of hybrid vehicles, which utilize both electricity and fuel, has also been notable, with a rise of 14%.

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, from January to March 2025, the sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China reached 670,000 units, representing an impressive growth rate of 84%. The figures indicate that the market for electric vehicles in China is firmly on a growth trajectory, with the demand for NEVs expected to continue rising.

Internationally, Chinese-made NEVs are performing strongly, with sales in overseas markets projected to reach 1.17 million units by March 2025, up from 990,000 units in 2021. The current growth is supported by increasing global demand for electric vehicles, and China’s manufacturers are positioning themselves to capture a larger share of the international market.

In 2025, it is anticipated that the domestic market for electric vehicles will comprise a significant share, with NEV sales expected to reach 756,100 units and 747,000 units respectively. This growth is driven by favorable government policies and a strong consumer shift towards electric mobility.

For the European market, electric vehicle sales are projected to total 338.2 million units in the first quarter of 2025, with pure electric vehicles accounting for 57.35 million units, reflecting a significant increase of 28% compared to the previous year. The hybrid models are also expected to see a rise, reaching 26.75 million units.

In the United States, the electric vehicle market is also expanding, with a projected increase in sales of 20.5% in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 121.5 million units. Traditional fuel vehicles have seen a decline, with petrol car sales decreasing by 21.2% to 95.6 million units.

Overall, the global electric vehicle market is witnessing substantial growth, with demand expected to rise significantly in the coming years. Manufacturers are adapting to this trend by investing in new technologies and expanding their production capabilities.

With the continued push for cleaner energy and sustainable transportation, it is clear that the electric vehicle sector is poised for a transformative shift, leading to further innovations and market expansions worldwide.
