The National Energy Administration reported that as of the end of September, the total number of electric vehicle charging infrastructure facilities in China reached 18.063 million, which represents a 54.5% increase compared to the previous year.
According to data released on October 20, 2025, the total number of electric vehicle charging facilities in China has significantly expanded. Based on the statistics from the National Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Service Platform, as of the end of September 2025, the total number of electric vehicle charging facilities (including various types) reached 18.063 million, reflecting a 54.5% year-on-year growth. Specifically, the total number of public charging facilities was 4.476 million, up 40%, with total service capacity reaching 1.99 billion kilowatts, averaging around 44.36 kilowatts. Private charging facilities totaled 13.587 million, a 60% increase, with private charging facilities reporting a total energy consumption capacity of 1.20 billion kilowatt-hours.
Earlier reports indicated that on October 15, the National Development and Reform Commission announced the “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Development Action Plan (2025-2027),” which aims to establish 28 million charging facilities nationwide by the end of 2027, providing over 300 billion kilowatt-hours of charging capacity to meet the demand of more than 80 million electric vehicles.
By the end of 2027, it is anticipated that 1.6 million public fast charging stations will be built, including over 100,000 large-capacity charging stations. Furthermore, by that same year, 4 million charging facilities will be established on high-speed roads, featuring high-capacity chargers for efficient charging services.
In addition, the construction of charging stations in rural areas is expected to progress, with a target of establishing 1.4 million direct current charging stations to ensure accessibility in these regions. The demand for charging infrastructure is projected to grow significantly as the market for electric vehicles continues to expand.
Key Points: The National Energy Administration’s statistics indicate that as of September 2025, the total number of electric vehicle charging infrastructure facilities in China reached 18.063 million, representing a 54.5% increase compared to the previous year.
