The National Energy Administration: The rapid development of electric vehicle infrastructure is driven by regional policies, with the goal of achieving “full coverage” of new energy vehicles. This was reported by China Energy News on April 28, 2025.
During a recent national energy conference, the National Energy Administration unveiled the latest progress in the construction of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. As of the end of March 2025, the number of charging stations in China reached 13.74 million, representing an increase of 47.6% compared to the previous year, and fulfilling 98% of the service demand across the country.
Notably, outside of the western regions and Tibet, the construction of charging stations has met the target of achieving a 97.31% completion rate. In 13 provinces, the construction of charging stations has reached a 76.91% completion rate.
According to the administration, the support for the new energy system and the development of the new power generation system will facilitate the integration of new energy vehicles with charging networks. The National Energy Administration is collaborating with relevant government departments to develop a framework for the vehicle charging operational model, selecting nine pilot cities and 30 demonstration projects for implementation.
To better address the challenges faced by users, the administration is currently drafting policies that focus on the rapid development of electric vehicle infrastructure. This includes ensuring high-speed service coverage, as well as improving the overall efficiency of electric vehicle charging facilities.
In the lead-up to the ‘Five One’ initiative, the administration has directed regional authorities to enhance the availability of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and ensure that maintenance and operational standards are met. They aim to use information technology to strengthen monitoring and management systems, ensuring that the services provided during the ‘Five One’ period are reliable, safe, and efficient.
Furthermore, the National Energy Administration plans to enhance energy supply systems and policies to continuously improve the reliability of the electric grid. They are committed to high-quality development of electric vehicle infrastructure to better meet the growing demand for new energy vehicles.
Looking ahead, the National Energy Administration will strengthen regulatory frameworks and policies, maintaining a focus on sustainable energy development and enhancing service capabilities across the electric grid. This will ensure that the quality of electric vehicle infrastructure continues to improve, better serving the needs of the public.
