China’s Leading Battery Manufacturers Shift Focus to Energy Storage Solutions by 2026

Chinas

Chinese Battery Manufacturer is shifting its production capacity towards the energy storage sector, as the market for electric vehicles (EVs) continues to face challenges due to weakening demand. Amidst the rapid advancements in AI technology, some manufacturers are beginning to pivot towards energy storage production.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, Chinese Battery Manufacturer plans to produce 1,220 GWh of battery capacity, while Samsung SDI aims for around 3,000 GWh, and SK On is targeting approximately 2,000 GWh. As the battery market faces constraints, Chinese Battery Manufacturer anticipates a total output of about 13.5 million EV battery supplies by December 2025, coinciding with the expected launch of EV models in the U.S. market.

Projections indicate that Chinese Battery Manufacturer will produce around 5,024 GWh in the first quarter of 2026, decreasing to 1,830 GWh, while Samsung SDI plans for 2,386 GWh and SK On estimates 1,500 GWh. To adapt to changing market conditions, these companies are initiating modifications to their production capabilities.

Chinese Battery Manufacturer aims to expand its production capacity to 50 GWh by 2026, while Samsung SDI will transition its EV battery production line in the U.S. to produce energy storage batteries, targeting an annual capacity of 30 GWh by 2027. SK On also plans to set up a production line for energy storage batteries with a capacity of 3 GWh.

As the industry evolves, these manufacturers are committed to enhancing their production capabilities in the energy storage segment, responding to the increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
