On August 26, 2023, New Energy China Network announced the launch of a cutting-edge energy storage system with a capacity of 150MW/600MWh in the Hainan province, marking a significant milestone in energy storage scale and technology.
This project is developed by the Hainan Provincial Power Corporation and integrates 53 different projects into a unified energy storage system. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of energy supply, thereby supporting the provincial energy strategy.
According to reports, the newly introduced project encompasses 53 projects, including 42 industrial companies, 2 electric grid companies, and 3 renewable energy firms. The target completion date is set for May 26, 2025, with a focus on supporting the energy grid with sustainable and reliable solutions.
On May 22, 2023, the new energy storage project was officially launched in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, where the local government is actively promoting the development of renewable resources. This initiative will facilitate the transition to a greener energy system by implementing energy storage solutions.
As of May 23, 2023, the total installed capacity of energy storage systems in China reached 34.9 billion kWh, showcasing a significant increase in the country’s energy storage capabilities.
In addition, 36 new energy storage projects were announced on May 22, 2023, with a total capacity of 6.21GW/29.65GWh. These projects are part of a broader strategy to enhance energy infrastructure and ensure the stability of the energy supply.

By May 21, 2025, it is projected that there will be 27 new energy storage projects implemented in China, with a total capacity of 3022.5MW/8240MWh. These developments are set to enhance the resilience and efficiency of the country’s energy infrastructure.
