On October 21, 2025, a report from the “China Regulatory Commission” highlighted the ongoing efforts of the traditional manufacturing industry to shift towards a “green economy.” This transition is characterized as the “green gold” movement in carbon reduction.
China stands as the world’s largest paper producer, holding a significant position in both total output and consumption rates globally. However, the industry has faced challenges related to excessive production and pollution. As a leading paper manufacturing country, it is also a major contributor to environmental issues.
The initiative, termed “green color code,” aims to enhance the sustainability of paper production while reducing carbon emissions. By 2024, a target has been set to achieve a reduction of approximately 4 million tons of carbon emissions annually through the implementation of advanced technologies and practices.
In 2025, the goal is to generate 5,000 megawatts of electricity from new energy sources, which is equivalent to a reduction of around 1.5 million tons of carbon emissions. Additionally, the industry anticipates savings of about 800,000 yuan in annual electricity costs, alongside a reduction of 3 million tons of carbon emissions.
The focus will also be on constructing new power stations with an expected output of around 3,500 megawatts, further contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.
With the implementation of these measures, companies are expected to transition towards a circular economy, maximizing resource use and minimizing waste. For instance, every production line will utilize advanced water recycling technologies to ensure that excess water can be reused in subsequent manufacturing processes.
Furthermore, the use of self-purifying wastewater treatment systems is being adopted to ensure compliance with stringent environmental standards, effectively reducing the overall environmental footprint of paper production.
The regulatory framework emphasizes strict adherence to waste management protocols to ensure sustainable practices are followed throughout the production cycle. Companies are expected to maintain a 100% compliance rate with waste disposal regulations to minimize their environmental impact.
The green transition has become a strategic priority for companies, promoting sustainable development and adherence to environmental standards, which are essential for future growth in the industry.
In summary, the shift towards a “green economy” in the paper manufacturing sector is not only crucial for environmental sustainability but also presents significant economic opportunities for companies that adapt to these evolving standards.
