
Recently, the Xinjiang Nileke 250,000 kW main power source photovoltaic demonstration project, developed by China Green Development Investment Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “China Green Development”), successfully completed its grid connection characteristic field tests. This test, led by the State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Research Institute, marks the first testing of a main power source photovoltaic power station in China.
The testing team conducted a comprehensive evaluation over 38 days, covering 10 major items, 21 sub-items, and 209 test conditions, which included aspects such as grid-forming photovoltaic inertia response, primary frequency modulation, impedance scanning, and short-circuit ratio adaptability. The results confirmed the technical feasibility of the main power source photovoltaic power station, demonstrating its critical role in enhancing grid stability and supporting the integration of a high proportion of renewable energy. This provides a new technical pathway for building a new type of power system.
The technological approach adopted by the Xinjiang Nileke 250,000 kW main power source photovoltaic demonstration project is the self-synchronized voltage source friendly grid connection technology. This theory was proposed by Professor Cai Xu’s team at the Wind Power Research Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and has been applied by Shanghai Zhonglv New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of China Green Development) to its renewable energy projects in Xinjiang and Gansu, leveraging the collaborative advantages of the China Green Development industry.
The person in charge of Shanghai Zhonglv Technology stated, “The new power system is a strong, green, and low-cost synchronous grid primarily based on wind and solar energy. We have digested and absorbed the self-synchronized voltage source friendly grid connection technology, proposing a complete concept for main power source renewable energy stations. Through the demonstration project engineering validation, we have further optimized and enhanced the technical index system, resulting in a comprehensive solution for main power source renewable energy stations. The results of this test prove that self-synchronized voltage source friendly grid connection technology can become a key technology for constructing main power source renewable energy stations.”
It is understood that after applying the overall solution and supporting equipment for main power source wind farms, these facilities can function as main power sources with synchronous generator characteristics, capable of off-grid operation and black start. This enhances the safety and stability limits of the grid, increases the utilization rate of transmission corridors, and reduces the abandonment rate of large-scale renewable energy projects.
