Are you still hesitant about switching to a new energy vehicle? Don’t worry, you’re not alone!

As of May 28, 2025, the market is buzzing with discussions about the electric vehicle industry. Recent reports indicate that the infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) in China is still insufficient, raising questions about the sustainability of this transition.

According to the latest statistics released in April, the number of charging stations across the country has reached 9.2 million, reflecting a significant increase of 34.1% compared to previous months. Despite this growth, the demand for electric vehicles continues to outstrip supply, with a deficit of approximately 8.5 million charging stations needed to meet the rising needs of consumers.

The latest data from the China Electric Vehicle Association shows that as of April, the total number of electric vehicles registered in the country stands at 399.2 million, which includes 183.4 million direct current (DC) charging vehicles and 215.7 million alternating current (AC) charging vehicles.

From May 2024 to April 2025, the demand for new energy vehicles is expected to be around 8.5 million units. However, the industry is currently facing a challenge in meeting this demand due to the insufficient charging infrastructure.

Moreover, the latest figures indicate that charging facilities in regions like Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Hebei have achieved a coverage rate of 67.7%, showcasing the ongoing efforts to expand the EV infrastructure.

In terms of energy consumption, the total electricity used for charging in April was approximately 61.4 billion kWh, representing an increase of 2.7 billion kWh from the previous month, with a year-on-year growth of 55.6%.

To further enhance the charging infrastructure, the government is anticipated to introduce new policies aimed at accelerating the development of a more robust electric vehicle charging network.

In light of these developments, manufacturers are encouraged to strengthen their production capabilities and improve consumer trust in new energy vehicles. The focus is on creating a sustainable and efficient charging infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of the market.

In summary, while the growth in the electric vehicle sector presents exciting opportunities, it also brings challenges that require immediate attention to ensure a seamless transition towards sustainability.
