China’s Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Surpasses 20 Million Units

China’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure has reached a total of 20 million units as reported by the National Energy Administration (NEA) on January 21, 2026. According to the NEA, the number of electric vehicle charging facilities in the country is expected to increase significantly by the end of 2025.

The data indicates that by December 2025, the total number of electric vehicle charging facilities is projected to reach 20.09 million units, reflecting a remarkable growth of 49.7% compared to the current total of 20 million units. Out of these, 4.717 million are public charging facilities, which have seen an increase of 31.9%. The total charging power capacity is estimated to reach 220 gigawatts, with an average power capacity of approximately 46.53 gigawatts.

Additionally, 15.375 million of these facilities are private, demonstrating a growth of 56.2%. The total electricity consumption capacity for private electric vehicle charging facilities is expected to reach 134 billion kilowatt-hours.

These advancements highlight the rapid development of China’s electric vehicle infrastructure, supporting the growing demand for electric vehicles across the nation.
