As of April 2025, the number of charging stations across the country has exceeded 14 million, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 46.3%.

On May 12, 2025, China’s Charging Alliance reported on the status of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Key details include:

In April 2025, the number of public charging stations increased by 92,000 compared to March 2025, representing a 34.1% year-on-year growth. By April 2025, member units of the alliance reported a total of 3.992 million public charging stations, comprising 1.834 million DC charging stations and 2.157 million AC charging stations. From May 2024 to April 2025, approximately 85,000 new public charging stations were added monthly.

The top ten regions for public charging station construction—Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Sichuan, and Beijing—accounted for 67.7% of the total.

The majority of the charging electricity is concentrated in provinces such as Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian, Henan, and Shaanxi. The primary users of this electricity are buses and passenger cars, while other vehicle types, such as sanitation and logistics vehicles, contribute a smaller percentage. In April 2025, the total national charging electricity reached approximately 6.14 billion kWh, an increase of 270 million kWh from the previous month, marking a year-on-year growth of 55.6% and a month-over-month increase of 4.6%.

Regarding the operation of charging infrastructure providers, as of April 2025, the top 15 charging operators in terms of number of charging stations are:

  • Telecharge: 766,000
  • Star Charge: 672,000
  • Yun Kuaicharge: 623,000
  • Xiaoju Charge: 240,000
  • Weijing Cloud: 221,000
  • State Grid: 196,000
  • Lv Charge: 122,000
  • Shenzhen Car Electric Network: 105,000
  • Hui Charge: 92,000
  • Southern Power Grid: 90,000
  • Yiwei Energy: 79,000
  • Wancheng Wanchong: 55,000
  • Weilan Fast Charge: 53,000
  • Kunlun Network Electric: 50,000
  • Junyue Charge: 48,000

These 15 operators account for 85.5% of the total, while the remaining operators make up 14.5%.

From January to April 2025, the growth in charging infrastructure amounted to 1.247 million stations, representing a year-on-year increase of 22.5%. Of this, the increase in public charging stations was 413,000, marking a growth of 64.7%, while the increase in private charging stations built alongside vehicles was 834,000, a rise of 8.8%.

By April 2025, the cumulative number of charging infrastructure installations nationwide reached 14.064 million, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 46.3%.

In terms of the comparison between charging infrastructure and electric vehicles, from January to April 2025, the increase in charging infrastructure was 1.247 million, while domestic sales of new energy vehicles reached 3.658 million. The growth of charging infrastructure and new energy vehicles continues to proceed rapidly, with a charging station to vehicle ratio of 1:2.9, indicating that the development of charging infrastructure can adequately support the swift growth of new energy vehicles.
