China’s Carbon Neutrality Strategy: Advancements in Carbon Reduction Technologies and Industrial Applications

Chinas

The China Carbon Neutrality and Industrial Carbon Technology Development report was released on May 28. This report was presented at the Shenzhen University during a conference organized by the university’s Carbon Neutral Research Institute, which aims to support the development of carbon-neutral technologies and promote collaboration among academia, industry, and government.

The report outlines a detailed framework focusing on carbon neutrality technologies and highlights a series of technological advancements in the field. It emphasizes the importance of establishing a platform for collaboration between industry and academia to enhance the exchange of knowledge and resources.

In the course of preparing this report, extensive discussions were conducted with 70 companies across various sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals, and construction materials. The report provides insights into the current state of carbon reduction practices and technological needs within these industries.

Key findings indicate that by 2060, China’s industrial carbon emissions are projected to be limited to 4.5 billion tons, a 95% reduction from 2025 levels. The report also suggests that a transition to renewable energy sources, including electricity generation and hydrogen production, will play a crucial role in achieving these targets.

Moreover, the report highlights the potential of CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) technologies, which are expected to contribute significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions in the industrial sector. It forecasts that by 2060, CCUS technologies could account for 24% of the total emissions reduction efforts.

The report concludes with several policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the carbon neutrality agenda. These include fostering greater collaboration among regulatory agencies and industry players to support technological advancements and the rapid deployment of carbon-neutral technologies.

In summary, the report presents a comprehensive roadmap for achieving carbon neutrality in China’s industrial sector, focusing on innovative technologies and collaborative efforts to meet future emissions targets.
