Strengthening the “Electric Safety” Framework! China has established the world’s largest energy regulation system for energy storage. On October 11, it was noted that the State Grid Corporation of China has built the most extensive and resource-rich energy storage regulation system, which serves as a demonstration model for the construction of a new type of power system in the country.
This significant advancement comes as many departments of the national government collaborate to launch the “New Type Energy Storage Regulation Construction Special Action Plan (2025-2027)”. According to this plan, it is projected that by 2027, China’s new type of energy storage capacity will exceed 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours, with an estimated direct investment of around 250 billion yuan.
What defines “the strongest”? The energy storage framework constructed under this initiative aims to address issues related to the stability of the power grid. As the largest power consumer in the country, the State Grid has already broken the 1.56 billion kilowatt-hour mark in electricity consumption, with new energy power generation expected to reach 1 billion kilowatt-hours. The regulation of the energy consumption is managed by the Energy Regulation Center, which conducts analysis to ensure efficient operation and management of electricity supply.
Moreover, the newly established energy storage regulation system is tackling a major challenge known as the “golden peak”, which relates to the balancing of power supply and demand. It features three significant core energy resources: the “regulation device”, which includes 760 million kilowatt-hours of new type energy storage; the scientific regulation of 373 million kilowatt-hours of hydropower; and the integration of new energy vehicles into the energy storage resources.
The strength of the “Electric Safety” framework will significantly enhance the stability of power supply in the province, ensuring a high level of efficiency and reliability in energy regulation. Particularly noteworthy is that the system’s innovative approach will facilitate the integration of new energy vehicles, guiding the industry toward a more sustainable future.
This comprehensive energy storage regulation system will provide a stable operational environment for the electricity grid, ensuring the security of power supply while simultaneously facilitating the development of advanced energy technologies.
In practice, to effectively utilize the stored energy from the “Electric Safety” system, operational departments must integrate predictive modeling for solar energy, wind power, and other renewable resources, alongside external power supply, to accurately determine daily electricity generation and consumption.
Looking ahead, as of next year, the State Grid will continue to expand energy storage capacity in various regions, including Jiangxi, Shanxi, and Xinjiang, aiming to develop new energy storage capacity exceeding 500 million kilowatt-hours.
This initiative will serve as a flexible resource that can adapt to energy needs while driving advancements in new energy technology and fostering high-quality development, thereby strengthening energy supply security.
