China’s Digital Passport for Battery Products Set to Launch
On April 17, 2025, it was announced that a major step in advancing the exploration of digital product passports is set to take place with the upcoming “Digital Product Passport (DPP) International Symposium”, scheduled for April 25, 2025. This event will showcase the achievements of China’s digital passport for battery products.
In conjunction with the symposium, a launch ceremony for the Battery Product Digital Passport Registration Management Center in Jiangsu will also be held, along with the release of the “Digital Product Passport (DPP) Technology Development Report (2025)”.
Currently, digital product passports are becoming pivotal in facilitating international trade. On a global scale, the European Union’s Sustainable Product Ecodesign Regulation is set to take effect in July 2024, initiating the management of digital passports for industries including batteries and textiles. According to the EU’s Battery and Waste Batteries Regulation, starting February 2027, batteries for light-duty vehicles, industrial batteries with capacities exceeding 2 kWh, and electric vehicle batteries will be required to provide data through the DPP as mandated.
