China Power Construction’s Energy Storage Project Sets Guinness World Record with 1125.18MWh Capacity

China

1125.18 MWh! On May 20, the China Electric Power Construction (China Power) received a Guinness World Record certificate for the Red Sea Utility Infrastructure Project in Saudi Arabia, officially recognized as the highest capacity off-grid battery storage project in the world.

Located in the Tabuk Province of western Saudi Arabia, this project covers an area of 28,000 square kilometers. It is a key initiative under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan and represents the first large-scale infrastructure complex constructed by a Chinese company in the country, often referred to as a new generation city.

The project is managed by the Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Engineering Company, a subsidiary of China Electric Power. It emphasizes clean energy and environmental protection, aiming to provide green and pollution-free energy supplies. This project is notable for being the world’s first large-scale commercial utility facility that integrates multiple energy sources.

Furthermore, it stands as the largest energy infrastructure project developed by a Chinese enterprise overseas. The project includes numerous modules such as photovoltaic systems, energy storage, power grids, seawater desalination, water supply networks, wastewater treatment, solid waste processing, communications, and regional cooling systems. Notably, the energy storage component alone has a capacity of 1125.18 MWh, which earned it the Guinness World Record.
