On May 16 at 20:40, the first phase of the 2×200MWh independent shared energy storage project by Shandong Energy New Energy Group successfully connected to the grid, marking the official operation of the largest single-unit capacity advanced energy storage system in the country, with a capacity of 100 megawatts. This project is a significant milestone in the large-scale development of new energy storage by Shandong Energy Group, providing strong momentum for the construction of a new power system and promoting a green energy transition.
The energy storage station functions not only as a “supercharger” but also as a “large stabilizer,” capable of quickly storing energy during low-demand periods and accurately discharging during peak times to enhance the stability of the power system. The total planned capacity of the Dongying independent shared energy storage project is 200MW/400MWh, with the first phase connecting 100MW/200MWh to the grid. The project serves multiple functions, including grid peak shaving, frequency regulation, and efficient integration of renewable energy. It is expected to generate more than 70 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually for surrounding renewable energy stations and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 70,000 tons, providing solid support for large-scale clean energy integration.
Reportedly, the project employs Shandong Energy New Energy Group’s independently developed 35kV high-voltage cascade technology and an intelligent energy storage system, which includes four sets of 25MW/53.6MWh lithium iron phosphate battery storage systems. It utilizes 314Ah battery cells configured in 104 series liquid-cooled battery packs, characterized by high efficiency and performance. The design incorporates liquid cooling and a four-level safety protection system (cell, module, battery cluster, and system) to achieve comprehensive lifecycle safety management. The overall system adopts a 35kV high-voltage cascade solution, incorporating advanced technologies such as AI-powered battery health monitoring, setting a technical benchmark for energy storage demonstration projects in Shandong Province.
The successful grid connection of the Dongying 100MW energy storage project represents an important practice for Shandong Energy New Energy Group in implementing the “dual carbon” strategy and accelerating green transformation. Moving forward, the group plans to leverage its advantages in self-developed equipment and system integration to build a comprehensive ecosystem that spans research, manufacturing, and application, driving the upgrade and green transition of the energy storage industry in Shandong Province and providing an innovative model for large-scale energy storage development.
