On May 29, 2025, at 19:24, the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance announced the launch of its star rating evaluation system for electric vehicle charging stations. This initiative aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of charging stations across the country, with a total of 189 charging stations already evaluated in the first phase.
The ongoing project, known as the “Electric Vehicle Charging Station Star Rating Evaluation,” is designed to enhance the quality of charging facilities. The alliance is collaborating with several enterprises to promote high-quality electric charging station infrastructures. The evaluation will also include the establishment of standards for electric vehicle charging facilities, ensuring safety and efficiency.
The detailed evaluation criteria will take into account various aspects such as the charging station’s service capabilities, operational efficiency, and safety measures. The results from the evaluations will help guide future investments and improvements in charging infrastructure.
The evaluation framework is set to be officially published on May 11, 2024. Following this, the star rating system will continue to evolve, focusing on various types of charging stations, including public and specialized charging facilities.
In terms of the rating scale, the evaluation will classify stations into different star categories based on performance metrics, with a target score threshold as follows:
- 5 stars: Total score above 90
- 4 stars: Total score between 80 and 90
- 3 stars: Total score between 70 and 80
- 2 stars: Total score between 60 and 70
- 1 star: Total score below 60
This initiative signifies a significant step towards improving the electric vehicle infrastructure in China, promoting better service quality and safety for electric vehicle users.
