China International Battery Industry Expo 2025 Opens in Shenzhen

China

The 15th China International Battery Industry Expo (IBIE2025) commenced at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on October 10, 2025. Organized by the China Battery Industry Association, the event aims to comprehensively showcase innovations across the entire battery industry chain, with a strong focus on emerging applications and promoting global industrial collaboration. The expo covers an area of 15,000 square meters and features over a hundred exhibitors from various sectors including lithium batteries, lead-acid batteries, primary batteries, and other new types such as aqueous batteries, solid-state batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and nickel-hydrogen batteries, along with companies involved in battery materials, power systems, smart manufacturing equipment, new energy storage, battery intelligence, and applications.

Inauguration Ceremony

The opening ceremony began at 10 AM, hosted by Ma Dejun, Vice Chairman of the China Battery Industry Association. In his opening speech, Liu Baosheng, Chairman of the Association, reflected on the event’s development since its inception in 1997. Starting in 1995, the Association sought to create a communication platform for the industry, successfully holding national battery conferences for two consecutive years, which received enthusiastic responses from enterprises. To meet the industry’s needs, the China International Battery Exhibition was established, taking over the order conference functions and successfully hosting fourteen sessions since 1997. Liu reiterated the guiding principles established by previous leaders: “Enhancing friendship, strengthening communication, promoting trade, and developing cooperation.” These sixteen words encapsulate the original intent and goals of the Association in organizing the expo.

Today, the Chinese battery industry has entered a new stage of development, becoming a crucial source of technology, an industrial hub, and an innovative application market globally. Facing new phases and opportunities, the China Battery Industry Association is committed to carrying forward its nearly thirty-year historical mission, providing a comprehensive platform to showcase the strength of “Made in China” and “Created in China,” while leading the global battery industry’s development.

Gathering of Experts

Among the notable attendees at the inauguration were Liu Baosheng, Chairman of the China Battery Industry Association; Wang Xiaofeng, President of the China Inorganic Salt Industry Association; Wang Junli, Vice Chairman of the China Shipbuilding Engineering Society; Wang Jinliang, Vice Chairman of the Association; Liu Changlei, Chairman of Camel Group; Wang Wei, Chairman of Xinwangda Electronics; Jin Jian, Director of the Industrial Internet and IoT Research Institute of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology; Xu Yifang, Vice President of Chaowei Power Group; and many other industry leaders who jointly launched the IBIE2025 event. Following the opening ceremony, a tour of the exhibition area was conducted, focusing on the battery digital passport showcase, which highlighted the latest applications of digital passports in new energy vehicles from companies like Ideal, Seres, and BYD.

They also visited leading companies such as Ningde Times, Camel Energy, Xinwangda, Nanfu Battery, Chaowei Group, Shuangdeng Co., Ltd., Leoch International, Weilan New Energy, Chuangli New Energy, and Shuanglu Battery, praising their pioneering achievements in battery manufacturing technology.

Main Forum of the 2025 China International Battery Application Conference

On the afternoon of October 10, the main forum of the “2025 China International Battery Application Conference,” a core component of the expo, was held, hosted by Wang Jianxin, Vice Chairman and Executive Secretary General of the China Battery Industry Association. In his address, Liu Baosheng emphasized that batteries have become the “blood” driving the green and low-carbon transformation across various industries. He noted that the industry has entered a new phase characterized by technology route differentiation and precise product definitions driven by demands from emerging scenarios such as energy storage, electric shipping, low-altitude aircraft, and smart elderly care robots. He called for sustained innovation and collaborative efforts to build a healthy industry ecosystem.

Wang Junli, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Shipbuilding Engineering Society, highlighted the vast potential of China’s electric shipping market, stating that batteries not only bring intelligence and sustainability to shipping but also enhance efficiency and safety. He expressed hope for cross-industry innovation between shipping and battery sectors to facilitate the green development of shipbuilding.

Academician Chen Qingquan from the Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered a keynote address titled “Artificial Intelligence Empowerment, Energy Revolution, and the New Journey of the Automotive Revolution.” He discussed six key areas: the importance of scientific iteration, the role of science and engineering as drivers of human development, the development of artificial intelligence at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, strategies to address energy revolution challenges regarding carbon neutrality, directions for the automotive revolution, and the economic value of merging energy, information, transportation, and cultural networks.

Academician Chen Zhongwei from the Royal Society of Canada presented on “Frontier Advances in Next-Generation Battery Materials and Technologies,” focusing on energy storage batteries, power batteries, hydrogen hybrid power sources, and aqueous batteries. He highlighted advancements in the development of safe and long-lasting semi-solid and solid-state batteries, as well as ongoing industrialization efforts for a 600Wh/kg power system, which has been preliminarily applied in multirotor drones and is being co-developed for eVTOL batteries.

Ongoing Activities

The activities of this year’s conference will continue until October 12, featuring twelve themed sub-forums that will delve into topics such as new energy storage, electric shipping, electric low-altitude aircraft, electric heavy trucks, smart elderly care and robotics, battery safety and standards, and international cooperation.
