China Establishes Largest Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Network to Support Growing Demand

China

China has established the world’s largest and most extensive electric vehicle charging service network. As of August this year, the total number of electric vehicle charging facilities in the country has reached 17.348 million, comprising 49,460 charging stations. This marks the largest and most widespread electric vehicle charging service network globally.

From September 27 to 29, during the 2025 China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Development Conference, Wang Zhongping, the Secretary-General of the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, stated, “China’s new energy vehicle industry is undergoing a significant transformation. It aims to enhance the development of the electric vehicle industry while promoting low-carbon growth and reducing carbon emissions. This progress cannot happen without the establishment of a solid charging infrastructure.”

Since 2015, through the concerted efforts of national policies and industrial chains, China has successfully transformed its electric vehicle sector from a state of “limited availability” to “greatly enhanced availability.” The industry has witnessed substantial growth, with charging infrastructure increasing from less than 100,000 to over 1.6 million charging stations, and the number of charging points expanding to 49,000.

The development of the electric vehicle charging service network is progressing rapidly, supported by robust governmental policies and technical standards. The sector has seen significant advancements in the past decade, leading to the construction of the largest EV charging service network in China.

During the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, the infrastructure will continue to receive heavy investment, promoting the quality of electric vehicle services, enhancing vehicle networking, and strengthening interconnectivity.

In 2024, the national conference will focus on the development of the electric vehicle charging industry, promoting collaboration among various stakeholders, and enhancing service quality. The goal is to ensure that electric vehicle production meets high efficiency and quality standards.

Overall, the rapid development of China’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure reflects the country’s commitment to advancing its new energy vehicle sector, aiming to provide substantial support for sustainable transportation and energy transition.
