Green Electric Direct Supply Development Accelerated – New Report from China National Energy Administration

On May 31, 2025, the National Development and Reform Commission, along with the National Energy Administration, released the “Guidelines for the Development of Green Electric Direct Supply Projects”. This initiative aims to meet the growing demand for green energy and promote new energy sources, focusing on sustainable and efficient energy use.

Direct supply refers to the transmission of electrical energy from renewable sources directly to end-users, bypassing traditional power grids. This approach enhances efficiency and allows users to access power more reliably, reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.

The National Energy Administration has indicated that current direct supply projects primarily utilize renewable energy, such as wind, solar, and biomass. These new energy sources are critical for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.

According to officials, the implementation of new energy projects is expected to accelerate, with an annual growth rate of over 60% in self-generated electricity from renewable sources. By 2025, it is projected that at least 30% of total electricity consumption will come from new energy sources, with this figure increasing to over 35% by 2030. Efforts will be made to encourage the adoption of these renewable energy projects across various sectors.

The “People’s Daily” reported that the government will continue to support these initiatives, ensuring that users have access to more diverse and sustainable energy options. The transition towards renewable energy is essential for meeting the energy needs of the future while also addressing climate change concerns.
