The development of renewable energy in China is set to accelerate significantly. By 2027, it is projected that the installed capacity for renewable energy will reach over 200 million kilowatts.
According to a report from the People’s Daily Overseas Edition on April 13, 2025, the construction of new energy systems and power markets is being expedited. The conditions for the development of renewable energy have been recognized, with a growing demand for energy sources. The State Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration have issued guidelines to promote the rapid development of renewable energy projects. By 2027, the construction of renewable energy facilities is expected to be managed effectively, with a target capacity reaching beyond 200 million kilowatts.
By 2030, the application of renewable energy is anticipated to advance steadily, with various business models emerging. The goal is to achieve an installed capacity of over 500 million kilowatts of renewable energy.
Renewable energy is fundamentally based on power systems, utilizing modern information communication technologies, control systems, and collaborative distribution models. This includes adjustable load management, energy storage, and various distributed resource types, all aimed at establishing a new energy economy that integrates with the power system and market dynamics.
In terms of system operation, renewable energy can supply adjustments for voltage, frequency, and peak load, among various services. On the demand-side management front, resources can be aggregated to respond to market demands effectively.
The National Energy Administration has assigned responsibility for these initiatives to relevant authorities. In recent years, various regions have been actively developing renewable energy construction, especially in areas like Guangxi, Shanxi, and Shaanxi, where there has been a marked acceleration.
However, overall, the construction of renewable energy remains in its initial stage. Each region still faces challenges in establishing a clear understanding of the energy’s capacity and functionality, and there is a need to refine management practices, market mechanisms, and regulatory systems.
It is crucial to enhance the foundational support for the identified capacities and functionalities of renewable energy. This includes pushing forward development initiatives, improving management levels, and refining participation in energy markets.
To continue fostering the renewable energy sector, it is essential to strengthen the core capabilities of renewable energy installations and encourage active participation across various energy markets or demand responses to obtain relevant revenues.
The National Energy Administration emphasizes that the guidelines support the participation of private enterprises in the development and construction of renewable energy power projects, which is an effective approach to enhance the sector.
In comparison to traditional energy projects, renewable energy projects generally require less investment and have a higher market entry threshold, thus providing private enterprises with a competitive advantage.
As the renewable energy sector grows, it will become a key player in the energy landscape, driving the transition towards more sustainable energy sources.
