PT Chery Sales Indonesia has successfully demonstrated the durability of its Super Hybrid Chery (CSH) battery, which was submerged in seawater for approximately 54 hours, exceeding the initial testing duration of 48 hours. After this immersion, the batteries were reinstalled in the Tiggo 8 CSH vehicle and showed no issues during testing. This process was overseen by Zeng Shuo, the Country Director of Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), alongside Budi Darmawan, the Director of Sales at PT CSI.
“Based on the test results, we brought measuring equipment and our technicians confirmed that everything is functioning normally without any negative effects,” stated Budi during an event in the PIK area on June 19.
Zeng Shuo explained that Chery had previously tested the battery under laboratory conditions where it was submerged for 72 hours, using water that mimicked seawater in salt content. “However, in this case, we are using actual seawater in Indonesia. We were a bit anxious as this was in front of media representatives. But given our prior testing, we are confident in this demonstration,” Zeng added.
Chery recently launched a campaign titled ‘Extreme Challenge Chery Battery Test’ with the theme “Revolution of Safety.” This initiative was created to address public skepticism regarding the reliability of the Super Hybrid Chery technology. Remarkably, Indonesia is the first country globally to conduct such extreme battery tests, which attracted international media attention, including journalists from Malaysia and Thailand.
Indonesia’s tropical rainforest climate, characterized by heavy rainfall and frequent flooding, presents a significant risk of water exposure to vehicle batteries. During the test, two batteries were immersed—one was directly used in the car while the other was opened to verify its condition. Observations confirmed that both batteries remained intact and safe.
Chery plans to conduct additional tests in various countries, including Mexico and Brazil, utilizing different testing protocols.
