CEO of Haval’s Electric Vehicle Division, Wei Jianjun, has expressed concerns about the rising noise and vibrations associated with electric vehicles compared to traditional combustion engines. On October 19, 2025, he noted that the enthusiasm for electric vehicles is currently diminishing.
Wei Jianjun emphasized that in the coming years, the demand for combustion engine power will continue to exist. This is primarily due to high-end customers who are still seeking the sound and feel associated with combustion engines. He mentioned that the performance of electric vehicles is becoming limited due to the hybrid power technology being introduced.
During a recent press conference, Wei stated that electric vehicles are currently experiencing a “preference decline.” He mentioned that Haval plans to extend the life of its combustion engines while also integrating hybrid technologies into their vehicles.
He pointed out that a new electric model, the Haval GT, is expected to transition into a hybrid version by the end of October 2025. Haval’s current lineup includes models like the Temerario and Revuelto, which are designed as hybrid vehicles, while their SUV model, Urus, will also offer hybrid and combustion engine versions.
Two years prior, Haval had aimed to launch a pure electric SUV by 2029, but this plan has now been pushed back to 2035. Wei explained that his company produces 800,000 vehicles annually, but they only sell about 100,000 of them as electric vehicles, indicating a minimal impact on carbon emissions.
In contrast, Wuling Motors has plans to release their pure electric vehicle, Elettrica, in the coming years, which is expected to feature “unique characteristics and advanced technology.”
European and British markets plan to stop selling new combustion engine vehicles by 2035. However, the European Union is negotiating to extend this timeframe. The UK regulations state that a maximum of 2,500 new petrol or diesel vehicles can be produced, which means that Haval could continue to manufacture combustion engine vehicles for the next ten years.
