BYD to Launch Solid-State Battery Deployment in 2027, Signaling a Thriving Industry Phase

BYD

比亚迪 (BYD) is set to commence the application of all-solid-state batteries in 2027, marking a significant milestone as the solid-state battery sector enters a period of active development.

According to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of BYD Lithium Battery Co., Ltd., Sun Huajun, the company plans to initiate mass demonstration applications of solid-state batteries around 2027, aiming for large-scale deployment after 2030. The primary areas of focus for solid-state batteries include mid-to-high-end power batteries, consumer batteries, and eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) batteries.

Research from the battery and energy management team at CITIC Securities estimates that global solid-state battery shipments will reach approximately 556 GWh by 2030. As the technology for solid-state batteries advances, demand for related equipment is expected to increase correspondingly. The “Solid-State Lithium Battery Technology Development White Paper” indicates that the planned production capacity for solid-state batteries in China has already reached several hundred GWh, which is anticipated to significantly boost investments in solid-state battery equipment. It is projected that investment in domestic solid-state battery equipment will amount to around 17.81 billion yuan by 2030.
