BYD Makes Headlines! The 14 millionth new energy vehicle rolls off the assembly line, with Brazilian President Lula becoming a car owner! Latest remarks from Wang Chuanfu

On October 9, BYD celebrated a significant milestone with the official rollout of its 14 millionth new energy vehicle at its factory in Brazil. This event was attended by several notable guests, including Brazilian President Lula. With this achievement, BYD has become the world’s first new energy vehicle company to reach this landmark. In anticipation of this moment, the road in front of the factory was renamed “BYD Road.”

Looking ahead, BYD plans to continue its strategy of integrating internationalization with local development. Currently, the overseas market is crucial for achieving its annual sales targets, and the company is actively expanding its international business.

According to BYD’s official WeChat account, on October 10, the company announced that the vehicle was produced at its passenger car factory in Camaçari, Bahia, Brazil. The event marked a new phase in BYD’s globalization efforts. Attendees included Brazilian President Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao, Bahia Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, and BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu, along with various government officials and BYD employee representatives.

During the ceremony, Wang Chuanfu presented the 14 millionth vehicle, a Song Pro, to President Lula. In his speech, Lula expressed pride in BYD’s presence, emphasizing that the factory represents dignity for the people of Camaçari and Bahia. “You have the potential to create history by manufacturing the most advanced and fastest cars on Earth—this honor belongs to Bahia, China, and Brazil,” he stated. Lula thanked BYD for its trust and support in this endeavor and sent his best wishes to the people of Bahia and BYD.

Wang Chuanfu took the opportunity to express gratitude to the governments of China and Brazil, as well as partners and users, for their long-term support. “BYD has been in Brazil for over 11 years, with our electric buses now found in the streets and alleys of the country. Today, BYD boasts over 170,000 owners in Brazil and has been the sales champion in the Brazilian new energy market for two consecutive years,” he remarked. He further stated that BYD is not just an investor in Brazil but also a long-term partner.

On the eve of the ceremony, the Bahia State Assembly voted to officially rename the road in front of the BYD factory to “BYD Road.” This marks the third road globally to bear the BYD name, following two others in Lancaster, USA, and Rayong, Thailand, both linked to BYD production bases. The establishment of BYD Road in South America further illustrates the depth and breadth of BYD’s global brand strategy.

Looking to the future, BYD will continue to adhere to its strategy of integrating internationalization with localization, deepening its industrial layout in major global markets, and driving the green transformation and sustainable development of the global automotive industry through innovative technology and green concepts.

According to previous reports from BYD, the company sold 396,270 vehicles in September, bringing total sales from January to September 2025 to 3,260,146 units. On the evening of August 29, BYD announced its half-year report for 2025, which showed an operating revenue of 371.281 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.3%; net profit attributable to shareholders was 15.51 billion yuan, up 13.79%, both setting new records for the same period. In the first half of this year, BYD’s cumulative sales of new energy vehicles reached approximately 2.146 million units, a year-on-year increase of over 33%. Notably, overseas performance has emerged as a highlight, with sales of over 470,000 new energy vehicles abroad during this period, surpassing the total overseas sales from the previous year.

Looking ahead to the second half of 2025, BYD believes that the synergistic effects of automotive electrification, intelligence, and connectivity will continuously generate new growth momentum. The new energy vehicle market is currently experiencing a golden window for industrial upgrades, presenting vast opportunities. BYD has previously stated a total sales target of 5.5 million units for 2025, with overseas markets expected to be the main growth area, targeting annual sales of over 800,000 units. In 2024, BYD’s sales were 4.2721 million units, with overseas sales at 417,200 units. As it stands, BYD’s overall sales for the first half of the year have not yet reached half of the annual target. Moreover, as the second half begins, BYD’s sales growth rate in July has noticeably slowed compared to monthly performance in the first half, with total sales at 344,300 units, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 10.01% and a year-on-year increase of only 0.6%, significantly lower than the 11.98% increase seen in June.

In July, BYD’s production was 317,900 units, marking a year-on-year decline of approximately 0.93%, the first year-on-year decrease of the year. Industry data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers indicates that in July, China’s new energy vehicle production and sales reached 1.243 million and 1.262 million units, respectively, which were down 2% and 5% month-on-month but up 26.3% and 27.4% year-on-year. Nevertheless, BYD maintained a strong performance in overseas markets during July, exporting 80,737 new energy vehicles and sustaining a high year-on-year growth rate.

Overall, the overseas market has become a key factor for BYD in achieving its annual sales targets. The company has stated that it will actively expand its product line, enhance overseas production capacity and sales networks, build a global supply chain, and establish its own logistics capabilities. “The expansion of high-end brands is an important aspect of our international strategy, with our ‘Denza’ and ‘Yangwang’ brands gradually launching in multiple overseas markets and set to be released in the international market, further deepening the layout of our globalization strategy.”
