Electric Power Supply at Peak Load: Comprehensive Assessment of Resource Allocation and Reserves
On May 28, 2025, at 14:30, the China Gold Information Network reported that due to the approaching summer season and high temperatures, many regions are experiencing a surge in electricity demand. In response, electric power companies are consolidating their energy sources, reserves, and resources to ensure a stable and reliable power supply throughout the peak summer season.
During this time, electric utilities are focusing on optimizing power generation capacity across various energy sources to meet the increasing demand. For instance, from May 19 to 21, the province of Hebei faced high temperatures impacting its electricity generation capacity. To address this, the national grid initiated load shedding and balanced power supply expectations, cumulatively planning to supply 600 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, primarily from hydropower, thermal generation, and new energy resources.
As of now, the peak load forecast indicates that the maximum electricity consumption during the summer will account for 67.6% of total demand, with daily electricity consumption expected to reach 42.1%. Furthermore, the national grid is prepared to handle potential high peaks and has implemented measures to ensure stability and reliability in the electricity supply.
In the electricity generation sector, electric power companies are ramping up efforts to optimize their energy mix in response to these peak demands. From May 19 to 21, the Hebei province experienced significant impacts on generation due to high temperatures, prompting swift load reduction actions. The national grid is taking a proactive approach to maintain balance and minimize risks during peak periods.
Moving forward, power companies are expected to continue enhancing their capacity to secure and optimize resources efficiently. They are also implementing strategies to integrate renewable energy into their grid systems, which will play a critical role in meeting the electricity demands during the summer months.
The national grid is currently managing 95 power stations and is actively constructing additional energy projects. These efforts will contribute to an estimated 2.12 million kilowatts of power generation capacity by the year’s end, with a plan to increase the supply of renewable energy significantly.
In summary, as we approach the peak summer electricity demands, electric power companies are well-prepared to ensure a stable and reliable power supply through strategic resource management and optimization of energy generation capacity.
