Beijing — The “AI Smart Body + Robot” program has officially launched at the Beijing International Airport. As of February 9, 2026, the airport’s T1 terminal has introduced its latest “AI Companion” robot service. Passengers simply need to register at the check-in counter to access the “Automated Concierge” service.
This marks the first time Beijing Airport has implemented intelligent robot services, as well as the first instance of such services operating in a major international airport in China. The “AI Companion” is a product of the airport’s own research and development, designed to enhance passenger experience.
At the T1 terminal, the AI Companion can assist passengers by identifying their location and the nearest airline check-in desk. After identification, the robot can autonomously guide passengers along the designated pathways, avoiding human traffic, and ensure they reach their specific check-in area efficiently.
Notably, the time it takes to walk from the terminal to the nearest check-in desk is approximately 15 minutes on foot, and the return journey may require about half the time. Once the AI Companion has guided passengers, it will initiate further assistance based on the most recent updates from the airlines.
In addition to standard check-in services, this latest initiative will also feature the AI-powered “Little Mei” and “Little Black” robots that exemplify the seamless integration of AI and robotic technology. Users can simply activate “Little Mei” through voice commands, and the AI system will accurately interpret the request, estimate the waiting time, and assist in managing the queue.
As a unique transportation solution, the airport boasts high safety standards, enhanced passenger flow management, and elevated service quality, fulfilling the growing demand for advanced safety and stability in robotic services.
According to the responsible parties, the introduction of AI robot services is a significant milestone, reflecting a high level of technological achievement and safety compliance. The robots are not just a novelty but a step forward in transforming passenger services.
Beijing Airport is set to continue its collaboration with various partners to expand these services, aiming to attract more businesses and enhance the overall service landscape.
