Autocraft EV Solutions has introduced Latent-IQ, a new diagnostic tool integrated within its OptEVizer platform, aimed at assisting original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in identifying hidden defects in high-voltage electric vehicle (EV) batteries before they lead to expensive recalls or unnecessary disposals. With EV battery-related recalls increasing by over 500% in recent years, OEMs frequently opt to replace entire battery packs, discarding components that may still be functional.
Latent-IQ addresses this issue by employing a proprietary stress test to uncover internal cell-level defects, including torn tabs, separator damage, and cracked welds—problems that traditional diagnostic methods often overlook. The testing process yields results within hours, allowing manufacturers to assess recalled battery packs, pinpoint genuine risks, and recover usable components. This approach not only minimizes waste and costs but also aligns with sustainability objectives by preventing the premature disposal of viable battery parts.
Mike Hague-Morgan, executive director at Autocraft Solutions Group, stated, “Major recalls can undermine public confidence in EVs, and Latent-IQ helps to restore that trust. It’s about making smarter, faster decisions that identify faults at the earliest stage, before they affect performance or pose safety risks.” He emphasized their understanding of where failures occur, how they progress, and the limitations of existing diagnostics, expressing confidence in the tool’s readiness for broader adoption and encouraging more OEMs to participate.
Latent-IQ has already undergone successful pilot tests with several OEMs, including blind tests. It is powered by Autocraft’s digital twin technology, utilizing thousands of real-world battery datasets to spot deviations from expected performance. The tool also promotes sustainability; repairing a single 82.5 kWh EV battery, rather than replacing it, can prevent approximately 12 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, as highlighted in Autocraft’s white paper, Closing the EV Confidence Gap: The Role of Battery Remanufacturing.
