The largest solar energy exhibition in the ASEAN region, the Indonesia 2025 Solar Exhibition, concluded on April 25 at the Jakarta International Exhibition Center. Chinese enterprises participating in the event expressed optimism about the potential of Indonesia’s solar and photovoltaic market.

The three-day exhibition attracted over 1,000 exhibitors from around the world, including numerous leading Chinese companies in the solar photovoltaic industry. According to Fu Jingming, the sales manager of JinkoSolar, Chinese solar photovoltaic companies possess significant technological and manufacturing advantages. JinkoSolar is the largest module manufacturer globally and has established an early international presence, with 70% of its revenue coming from overseas markets. With Indonesia being the largest economy in Southeast Asia, there are substantial market opportunities in the energy transition, particularly in rooftop solar and energy storage.

As the world's largest archipelago nation with a population of 280 million, Indonesia's government is vigorously promoting a transition in its energy structure. According to the latest national master plan, Indonesia aims to achieve an additional 4.68 gigawatts of solar power capacity by 2030, increasing the share of renewable energy in new power generation capacity to 51.6%.

Jiangsu Zhonglai New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., a leading global manufacturer of solar backsheet, participated in the Indonesian solar exhibition for the first time this year. Wu Bin, the sales director, mentioned that with the recent relaxation of rooftop solar quotas and the implementation of user-side energy storage policies, integrated solar and storage solutions are becoming mainstream. Zhonglai plans to drive Indonesia's energy transition alongside industry partners using technological innovation and localized services.

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has authorized the Indonesian state electricity company to advance rooftop solar power station construction projects, with a total development quota of 5,746 megawatts scheduled for the 2024-2028 period.

Daqin Digital Energy Technology Co., Ltd., also a first-time exhibitor, highlighted that Indonesia's numerous islands—over 17,000—face challenges with insufficient electricity supply. Yang Jihao, the regional general manager, noted that solar energy is the most promising renewable energy option for Indonesia to achieve its goal of net-zero emissions by 2060, presenting significant market potential for photovoltaic storage products.

The Chinese solar photovoltaic exhibit attracted considerable attention from Indonesian buyers. Jefri Kelana, a director from Indonesian renewable energy company Trisindo Solar Jaya, stated that his visit aimed to explore the latest products and market trends. His company has been focused on environmental technology for the past decade, with all its products sourced from China. He also plans to visit Shanghai to investigate the latest technological developments.

Jefri pointed out that with the proportion of renewable energy users in Indonesia still below 10%, there is vast market potential. Adelia, a procurement manager from another Indonesian renewable energy company, expressed hopes that the exhibition would help her company explore new products, gain insights into industry trends, and seek opportunities for product upgrades. She noted that China leads globally in diverse renewable energy technology products, with most of their company's offerings imported from China, especially solar solutions. Currently, their main product is portable tower lights for mining companies, and they are looking for promising new products to introduce to the Indonesian market.

Adelia emphasized that the Indonesian market holds great promise, as there is a significant demand across sectors such as agriculture, livestock, and marine industries, all of which require solar energy to ensure reliable power supply.
