    At lower speeds, vehicles have less kinetic energy, limiting the system’s ability to recharge the battery effectively. Some manufacturers even suggest coasting may be more efficient in certain low-speed scenarios.
  2. Altered braking feel
    Drivers often report a noticeable difference in pedal response compared to traditional brakes, with some describing it as less smooth or intuitive. While newer models have improved this aspect, the tactile feedback remains distinct.
  3. Compromised stopping power
    Especially in earlier EV models, regenerative systems sometimes require harder pedal pressure to match conventional braking performance. While advancements continue, emergency stops still rely partially on friction brakes.
  4. Brake component degradation risks
    Reduced mechanical brake use can lead to rust, corrosion, and glazing of rotors and pads due to lack of friction-induced cleaning. This is particularly problematic in humid climates or areas using road salt.
  5. Environmental interference factors
    External variables like wind, terrain, rolling resistance, and temperature fluctuations can unpredictably impact energy recovery efficiency. Motor torque variations during aggressive braking further complicate energy recapture.
  6. Uneven wear patterns
    Infrequent mechanical brake use combined with occasional heavy braking creates imbalances, potentially causing patchy pad wear and rotor damage over time.
