Aqua Metals Announces Allowance of Foundational U.S. Patent for Lithium Battery Recycling Technology

**Patent Strengthens AquaRefining™ IP Portfolio and Supports Licensing and Joint Venture Strategy for Global Expansion**

Aqua Metals, Inc. (NASDAQ: AQMS), a leader in sustainable lithium battery recycling, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance for U.S. Patent Application No. 17/584,975. This newly allowed patent encompasses essential elements of Aqua Metals’ proprietary lithium battery recycling technology, further enhancing the Company’s AquaRefining™ intellectual property portfolio.

Originally filed in January 2022, this application reflects years of research and development that evolved from laboratory and bench-scale validation to successful pilot operations. Aqua Metals has proven its capability to efficiently recover battery-grade lithium carbonate, as well as high-purity nickel and cobalt materials, through its innovative electrified and regenerative hydrometallurgical process. This patent safeguards the core innovations within Aqua Metals’ AquaRefining™ technology, which serves as an environmentally superior alternative to conventional recycling methods. The process is estimated to yield cost savings of around $1,100 per metric ton of black mass input compared to traditional hydrometallurgical approaches. Additionally, it eliminates sodium sulfate waste, generates negligible CO₂ emissions, and ensures a safer workplace environment.
