April 2025 Electric Vehicle Manufacturers Sales Rankings: Several Companies Set New Records

On May 3, 2025, major automotive manufacturers released their sales data for April, revealing impressive performances from many companies and notable shifts in market dynamics.

BYD celebrated a remarkable month, achieving sales of 380,000 vehicles in April, setting a new record for the month. The company’s overseas market performance was particularly strong, with 78,700 units sold, including passenger cars and pickups. All of BYD’s brands contributed to this success, with the Dynasty and Ocean series recording sales of 347,000 units. Additionally, the Fangcheng Leopard, Tengshi, and Yangwang brands contributed 10,000, 15,000, and 135 units, respectively. BYD has set a global sales target of 5.5 million vehicles for 2025, and with cumulative sales of 1.381 million vehicles from January to April, it has already achieved a quarter of its annual goal, reflecting strong growth momentum.

Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. reported passenger vehicle sales of 234,000 units in April, marking a 53% year-on-year increase. The performance of its new energy sector was particularly noteworthy, with sales reaching 126,000 units, accounting for a remarkable 54% of total sales, thus setting new historical highs for both monthly sales and penetration rates. Geely also exported 24,000 vehicles, with its sub-brands Geely Galaxy and Zeekr achieving sales of 97,000 and 41,000 units, respectively, significantly boosting Geely’s overall sales growth.

Chery Group reported total sales of 201,000 units in April, representing a 10.3% increase compared to the previous year. Notably, sales of new energy vehicles soared by 85.5% year-on-year, with 61,000 units sold, making the new energy segment a crucial driver of Chery’s sales growth.

While Changan Automobile did not disclose its total sales for April, its new energy brands showed promising results. The Deep Blue brand achieved total deliveries of 20,000 units, up 58% year-on-year, while the Avita brand delivered 12,000 units, marking a 123% increase and reaching a historical high, showcasing strong market competitiveness.

Great Wall Motors reported sales of 100,000 units in April, a 5.55% increase year-on-year, with new energy vehicle sales reaching 29,000 units, which is a 28.42% rise compared to last year, indicating steady progress in their transition to new energy.

GAC Aion maintained stable market performance with new car sales of 28,000 units in April, showing little change from the same period last year. Cumulatively, GAC Aion sold 98,000 vehicles from January to April.

Among emerging brands, Leap Motor stood out with April deliveries reaching 41,000 units, a remarkable 172% year-on-year increase, solidifying its position as the leading new energy brand. The new all-electric SUV, the Leap Motor B10, was launched on April 10, priced between 99,800 and 129,800 yuan. The Leap Motor B01 also opened for blind orders, with pre-sales expected in June and a launch in July, generating anticipation for its market performance.
