The Climate Action Committee (CAC) of the Town of Alna has announced an exciting addition to the upcoming Community Solar Day event scheduled for Saturday, June 21. This year, the event will feature a Solar House Tour, showcasing seven residential solar installations that residents can visit between 2 and 4 p.m. A map of the participating solar homes will be available during the main event at the Alna Fire House from 1 to 4 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity to see how local homeowners have transitioned to solar energy and to ask any questions about their experiences,” said CAC member Al Monaco, whose home will be included in the tour. Another CAC member, Scott Budde, who will be present at the Fire House event, expressed his enthusiasm: “I have learned so much about the benefits of solar energy since our installation. We used our solar project as a chance to switch to fully electric systems for heating, cooling, transportation, and cooking. I’m happy to share my experience with anyone considering solar energy.”
In addition to gaining insights into how clean energy resources are being utilized in the community, Alna residents are invited to meet the team from Maine Solar Solutions, who installed the solar system at the Alna Fire House. Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch a demonstration on how drones are utilized to optimize rooftop solar array placement.
Furthermore, there will be hands-on demonstrations of Alna’s new emergency backup portable power stations, along with information on how both the Alna Food Pantry and Community Garden benefit from solar power.
The Town of Alna’s comprehensive transition to solar energy, along with the acquisition of five portable, safe, clean, high-capacity lending batteries, was made possible by a $44,000 Community Action Grant awarded to Alna by the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future (GOPIF) through its Community Resilience Partnership program.
