Al Dhafra Solar Power Plant is set to achieve a remarkable 40% increase in clean energy production by 2026. This facility, located in the UAE, is expected to generate 8.7075 billion megawatt hours of electricity, significantly contributing to the region’s sustainability goals.
The project is a collaboration among several key entities, including TAQA, EWEC, Masdar, and EDF Power. It will commence operations on January 16, 2026, and will feature a capacity of 2GW. The electricity generated will be exclusively supplied to EWEC.
TAQA will hold a 40% share in the project, while Masdar will have a 20% stake, and EDF along with other partners will share the remaining 40%. This project is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to enhance its renewable energy capabilities and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
The facility is projected to consist of around 400,000 solar panels, which will provide electricity to approximately 20,000 households. This substantial output will help meet the growing energy demands of the region.
The green certificate associated with this project reflects a 5.794% reduction in carbon emissions, further solidifying the UAE’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The anticipated operational date for the project aligns with the country’s long-term goals for renewable energy adoption.
According to Luc Koechlin, a representative from EDF Group, the project is expected to maintain operational efficiency and reliability, contributing significantly to the region’s power supply stability.
